Graphic design through software is a blessing for all. In the modern world, you see software all around you. Few professions you’ll experience that can’t be improved with the help of innovative technology supported by reliable software. It’s an all-around professional phenomenon for both corporate and amateur jobs.
But of course, not every graphic design software is for everyone. A server-side operating system, for instance, isn’t made for your home PC and vice versa.
Similarly, software designed for ease of architectural design wouldn’t be suitable for photographers. The one made for photographers wouldn’t help game designers, and the game design software has no use for e-book writers.
But all in all, every design platform is there to help a professional make the most of their efforts. But since there are so many tools, you tend to get confused with the how’s and what’s of your requirements.
So, you know what we’re gonna do today. Well, of course, you do; you read the title. We’re gonna go through each profession that uses design software in some way or another and tell you which software you need accordingly. So, read along the following blog post to know what each profession needs.
1. Graphics Designers
Starting off with the most obvious one, Graphic Designers. Of course, you may already be aware of this one.
The most essential programs for graphic designers in today’s age appear to be Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
These help designers create the most attractive social media posts, web designs, web posters, logo designs and fulfill many other digital design requirements.
Now, yes, there are alternatives. Plenty of them out there, both free and paid. But at the end of the day, you have to keep the industry standards in mind.
Many employers will allow you to use the alternatives you prefer, but they may already have Adobe software installed on their systems. So, better to go with the industry’s flow, at least if you’re a beginner.
2. Photographers
Moving on to the other most obvious profession related to graphics software. Photographers today need good software to help provide commendable services to their clients.
Of course, that means both for pictures and videos. So, we’ll be recommending two for this one as well, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Photoshop is probably is the best editor for clicked photos out there. “Photoshopped” has even become a popular word now for edited photographs.
Premiere Pro, on the other hand, helps with editing and improving videos. But that’s for Windows users.
We’re guessing you’re on a Mac, in which case you should go for Final Cut Pro. That, too, is a fantastic software for videos.
3. UI/UX Designer
Graphic design is one thing. Making the design responsive is another. Put it together, and you’ve got a UI/UX designer.
You don’t just have to make beautiful designs for websites and mobile apps; you also have to ensure a memorable user experience for your client’s visitors.
This can be tough, but so is the life of a UI/UX designer. Now, for the software, you’ll need Illustrator to design the basic layouts of your project.
Once your client has finalized those, you can start working on a functioning prototype. Adobe XD can help you out with this part.
It’s specifically designed to help you provide clients with responsive web and mobile designs according to their design requirements. Again, alternatives are there, but many with XD you get the familiarity of Adobe software.
4. Architects
Woah! What’s this one doing on the list, right? How can architects use software like Photoshop and Illustrator for their immensely complex designs?
Well, they don’t. So to that one architect who’s reading this thinking, “oh, but I actually do”, we’re not talking about you in specific.
If only there was a software that could take all kinds of electrical, piping, room separation, ventilation design requirements and help people easily design buildings and structures.
Oh, wait… there actually is. It’s called AutoCAD. Yes, again, alternatives exist, but AutoCAD stands out.
It helps you create the most imaginative, realistic architectural designs that you could come up with by providing ease with all kinds of electrical, plumbing, and other essential building/structural systems.
5. Game Designers
Gaming, too, has taken over the world as one of the most profitable professions around. With that also comes the requirement of highly skilled game designers and developers.
For many people, this is even a dream job. You get to work on something you can enjoy for hours on end. But you gotta know where to start.
For this, I suggest Unity 3D and Unreal Engine. These will help you get the hang of professional game development for both desktop and mobile devices.
Yes, again, alternatives. I’ll bring this up at every point. But these are literally two different programs that do the same thing, so these are already alternatives.
Plus, if it feels like you’re getting stuck at any point, you can consult free tutorials on YouTube or buy courses online. Either way, you’ll get there.
But where do I begin?
… is probably the question in your mind right now. You’ve installed a program already, maybe one mentioned here, maybe something else that does the same thing.
But whether it’s a premium design software or a free one, nothing’s a piece of cake. You need to have the proper expertise to skillfully handle and operate a new program. So, how do you do that? Tutorials and courses.
There are numerous tutorials available online for each program mentioned here. From Illustrator to AutoCAD, where’s there’s a will, there’s some experienced guy teaching it online.
For one thing, you can find tons of tutorials on YouTube that you can take advantage of for free. Plus, many websites (like Coursera, and Udemy) offer affordable courses to help you get started and become a pro in less time.
Can I Do Something Else Instead?
… is probably your follow-up question. The answer is yes. But of course, it’s either the hard way or the expensive way.
You can either learn or hire someone to do your bidding. The third way is to outsource is to a reliable service provider.
Whether you need terrific UI/UX, super logo designs, or comprehensive engineering diagrams, there’s always someone else out there that can do it for you. So, if you’ve got the budget, go ahead.
