Interview with Mr. Abhilash Reddy D: Nutrilitius Managing Director and Co-founder

Abhilash Reddy D is the managing director and co-founder at Nutrilitius, an online platform for purchasing the best quality nuts, dry fruits and health supplements in India.

In his current capacity at the organization, he spearheads the operations, supply chain, and customer experience.

Being at the forefront of the organization, Abhilash, along with his team, aims to establish Nutrilitius as the most popular health supplement brand.

With the core philosophy to offer customers the best experience, he strives to provide the best value propositions, the quickest deliveries, and a new-age customer experience.

Abhilash holds a BE degree in Mechanical Engineering from the reputed Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Pilani, and is a certified SAP ERP Associate.

He comes with over eight years of cross-functional experience in startup hustling and consulting, with a footprint in various domains, from legal to sales and project management to operations.

Moreover, he has hands-on experience in understanding and automating business processes in various industries like airlines, oil and gas, construction, and manufacturing. 

An entrepreneur at heart, Abhilash successfully built another startup before starting Nutrlitius. He built Wozart Technologies, a computers and electronics manufacturing company, from scratch to a new-age startup.

During his stint as the CEO of Wozart Technologies, Abhilash and his team won the Best Gadget award at the HYSEA Summit 2018 from the then Vice-President of India, Dr. Venkaiah Naidu.

His experience in managing startups has helped him develop his skill in lean and bootstrapped management.

In the past, Abhilash has managed some critical portfolios at the organizations he worked and delivered high growth.

He has headed the business development at Rescribe as the Chief Business Officer and worked as Associate Consultant at HCL Axon.

Abhilash is on a mission to serve 1 million customers every five years by creating a new age after-sales experience through intuitive platforms like WhatsApp and its automation.

He plans to build a solid portfolio for Nutrilitius through a robust feedback system with customers and reaching every corner of the country with an efficient last-mile delivery system. 

A sports and fitness enthusiast, Abhilash loves spending his leisure time playing badminton and doing karate. To keep himself updated with the latest happenings in politics, he watches political news in his free time.

Tell us a little about yourself

Abhilash Reddy D: I am Abhilash Reddy D. I am the Managing Director (MD) and one of the co-founders of Nutrilitius, an online platform that offers the best quality nuts and dry fruits in India.

I have attended the reputed Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Pilani, to pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree. Besides, I am also a certified SAP ERP Associate.

Right after graduating, I started working as a consultant in IT companies like HCL Axon. In a career span of more than eight years, I have worked in various industries like airlines, oil and gas, construction and manufacturing.

With cross-functional experience in startup hustling and consulting, with a footprint in multiple domains, from legal to sales and project management to operations, I have managed to skill myself in lean and bootstrap management.

Please tell us a little about your entrepreneurial journey

Abhilash Reddy D: I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur, build an innovative business, and generate employees for skilled professionals. I have been a seasoned entrepreneur.

Before starting Nutrilitius, I built Wozart Technologies, a computers and electronics manufacturing company, from scratch to a new-age startup.

During my stint as the co-founder & CEO of Wozart Technologies, it won the Best Gadget award at the HYSEA Summit 2018 from the then Vice-President of India, Dr. Venkaiah Naidu.

What products do you offer at Nutrilitius?

Abhilash Reddy D: Our platform offers a range of quality dry fruits and wellness products. We started our business by providing unique, distinctive, quality dry fruits and nuts to health-conscious customers in tier-I cities.

Recently we have expanded our portfolio and launched a range of nutraceuticals to promote good health and immunity.

The newly launched range of supplements can be consumed to improve metabolism, immunity, digestion, liver health, vision, and sexual performance and strengthen bones.

What is unique about your “Nutrilitius“ brand?

Abhilash Reddy D: Our commitment to sourcing, processing, grading, packaging and supplying the finest dried fruits from the best farms in India and Iran to our customers while ensuring affordability makes us unique in the market. We are dedicated to offering our customers the best experience while purchasing our products.

What made you choose this type of business?

Abhilash Reddy D: We believe in the core philosophy of “Where there is health, there is happiness”. Our visit to a  village in Beed, Maharashtra, where the people were suffering from malnutrition and made us think about what we can do for society and the common people.

It was then that we decided to start our venture. Initially, we started by selling dry fruits and dates through outlets in Pune at affordable prices for healthy living.

Post-pandemic, we started selling our products online and recently we expanded our portfolio in health supplement products to keep up with our resolution to promote good health. 

Our newly launched nutraceutical products include liver tonics, calcium supplements, testosterone boosters, multivitamins, weight-maintaining supplements, melatonin, flax seed, omega 3, immunity booster and probiotics

What was your mission and vision at the outset?

Abhilash Reddy D: We have always believed in promoting good health at an affordable cost, and this was the vision behind starting Nutrilitius.

Our mission at the outset was to offer affordable and best-quality dry fruits and nuts to health-conscious customers.

How many employees are in Nutrilitius?

Abhilash Reddy D: Currently, we have a team of 22 members.

What are your company’s goals?

Abhilash Reddy D: With the significant growth and popularity Nutrilitius has gained in the last decade, Nutrilitious is planning to scale further in the years to come.

The company intends to expand its product profiles to cover a broad range of customer health needs, including gummies, mouth sprays, and effervescent tablets.

It is one mission to become India’s fastest-growing affordable healthy food and supplement D2C brand. Nutrilitius aims to achieve INR 10 crore ARR in the next five months and 100 crore in 18 months

What was the inspiration behind turning into an entrepreneur?

Abhilash Reddy D: I have always been a fighter. I have strived hard to achieve the position I have made today. My main inspiration for becoming an entrepreneur is to wake up to new challenges and resolve them to inspire me to do better every day. 

What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

Abhilash Reddy D: It would be a mistake to describe my past ventures as failures, I would rather call them experiences. They are lessons for a lifetime.

Some of the things I have learned as an entrepreneur are: understanding the products that can cater to the demand in the market, working with appropriate partners, creating a robust workforce and having detailed knowledge of the ever-evolving business world.

Besides, knowing business terminologies like capital depletion, manual workflow and automation are also vital to run a successful business.

Key things to consider before starting a startup

Abhilash Reddy D: Before starting a business these are the keys things that must be addressed:

Discuss the idea with a wide range of stakeholders including investors, understanding the market value of the product and business, the uniqueness of the product or service, knowing your competitors, legal requirements and hiring the right people.

What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?

Abhilash Reddy D: When you start young, you tend to make some mistakes which turn out to be lessons for life. Some mistakes I made as a young entrepreneur are ignoring passion when starting a venture, not seeking advice from experienced people, and blaming myself.

If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?

Abhilash Reddy D: Start; only then can you learn. Learning must be the priority and not just success. Success comes along the way.

True success is learning the way to brace for any challenge. First-hand experience is the only way you can achieve true success.

Your success tips for young and aspiring entrepreneurs

Abhilash Reddy D: Things will not happen overnight. Endurance is the key. Keep developing good habits and routines as entrepreneurship is a way of life. Push yourself to come out of your comfort zone. Overcome inhibitions.
