Coming up in support of the government efforts and owing up to its corporate social responsibility, the Aditya Birla Group has announced ₹500 crore fund to support initiatives against the coronavirus epidemic and towards COVID-19 relief measures for the pandemic.
The group will be contributing ₹400 crore to the PM-CARES fund and ₹50 crore to supply 2.8 lakh personal protective equipment (PPE), 10 lakh N95 masks, and ventilators.
The remaining ₹50 crore will be granted to FICCI-Aditya Birla CSR Centre for Excellence towards India’s relief measures to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Other initiatives at Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai, in partnership with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. include activating a 100-bed Covid-19 facility. The FICCI-Aditya Birla CSR Centre for Excellence is being spearheaded by Neerja Birla.
The FICCI-Aditya Birla CSR Centre has also earmarked more than 200 beds for Covid-19 patients across locations including Kharach, Hazaribagh, Ujjain, Solapur, Pune, and Rayagada, as per the statement.
The Aditya Birla Group had already started the production of 100,000 coverall garments and one million triple-layer surgical masks with the support of the Textiles Ministry.
Many high-net-worth individuals like Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata, and private organizations including Reliance Industries Limited, Adani, Mahindra & Mahindra have already contributed in Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency situation Fund (PM CARES Fund) and also pledged to make essential medical equipment and ventilators at cheaper rates for assisting the paramedics and doctors in their efforts.
The chairperson at Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development, Rajashree Birla, said that there is a compelling need for a multi-pronged response that includes healthcare assistance, financial and material support, and community responsibility.
