Air India To Introduce Premium Economy Class On Some International Flights
November 20, 2022: The Tata-owned carrier has restored about 20 aircraft that were grounded over the years due to lack of parts and money.
Leaving aside the cabin interior, this required the purchase of more than 30,000 parts to keep other aircraft flying that were cannibalized over the years.
Not only is Air India looking to expand its fleet in the coming years, but the airline will increase its market share on domestic and international routes to at least 30 percent.
Soon, Air India passengers will be able to travel in premium economy class on some of its long-haul international flights.
Air India’s chief executive on Saturday announced that the carrier will introduce premium economy class on some of its long-haul international flights next month.
The Tata group-owned airline is implementing a long-term revival plan over the next five years and is focusing on growing its wide-body and narrow-body fleet as well as expanding its global network. “Short-term actions are to replace carpets, curtains, seat cushions and covers.
To repair faulty seats and inflight entertainment systems as quickly as the supply chain. And where parts are no longer available in the market, working together.
Tata Technologies to design and manufacture the parts itself. Love to do,” Wilson said at an event organized by the JRD Tata Memorial Trust in Mumbai. He further said that the domestic flight menu has been completely revamped recently.
According to Wilson, the Tata-owned carrier has restored about 20 aircraft that were grounded over the years due to lack of parts and money.
Leaving aside the cabin interior, this required the purchase of more than 30,000 parts to keep other aircraft flying that were cannibalized over the years.
Emphasizing that they have embarked on a bold chapter to make the airline a world-class airline, Wilson shared that Air India will expand its wide-body and narrow-body fleet over the next five years.
In addition to repositioning long-term aircraft, he said the airline has finalized leases for the delivery of 30 additional aircraft over the next 12 months, starting next week, with more in the final stages of negotiations.
“Besides this short-term addition, we are in deep discussions with Boeing, Airbus and engine manufacturers for historic orders for the latest generation aircraft that will power Air India’s medium and long-term growth.
At the risk of understating the overall, the investment will be significant,” he said. 2023 should be an exciting year for Air India, noted the CEO.
Meanwhile, the US earlier this week ordered Tata-Group-owned Air India to pay $121.5 million in refunds and $1.4 million in fines for long delays in refunding passengers due to flight cancellations or changes, mostly during the pandemic.
Air India is among six airlines that have agreed to pay a total of more than $600 million in refunds, the US Department of Transportation said on Monday.
