Air India’s New Grooming Guidelines: Hair Gel For Male Crew, Make-up A Must For Women

November 26, 2022: According to the latest guidelines, gel nail polish and French manicure are allowed with regular refills and must be well-maintained.

The airline said gray hair should be dyed a natural shade or use the company’s hair color shade card for women.

Tata Group-owned Air India has issued a 40-page circular outlining grooming requirement for all its crew members, asking men to apply hair gel and women to wear foundation and concealer that match their skin tone.

“For the male crew, a black uniform jacket must be worn throughout the flight in all cabins. (during boarding, servicing, and deplaning).

Individual tie pins are not permitted. The crew may wear a tie without a tie pin if not issued. Black logo only.

Non-calf-length gloves are to be worn with the uniform. Men must have a neat short haircut with side parting (no volume),” the Air India circular read. Air India has also mandated male crew members to shave daily and apply hair gel compulsorily.

“Use of hair gel is mandatory. Male crew with receding hairlines and male bald patches must have a clean head or bald appearance.

The Head must be shaved daily. Crew cutting is not permitted. Gray hair is not permitted. Gray hair must be regularly colored in a natural shade.

Fashion colors and henna are not allowed. Rings- Only one ring in a wedding band design is permissible for men.

Only one Sikh Kada with maximum thickness of 0.5 cm in gold or silver without any design, logo or stones may be worn. (No wristbands),” the circular read As for women crew members, Air India has asked them to strictly follow the latest uniform guidelines.

“Apron is discontinued and should not be worn. Black blazer with Indo-Western uniform is also discontinued and should not be worn on board.

Calf-length stockings (plain and matching skin tone) for flight duty with both sarees. ) is mandatory. and Indo-Western uniform.

The company-issued black cardigan may be worn for boarding and deplaning (only during winter months) and may be flown on LH and ULH flights throughout the year for a lull period.

Cardigan and waistcoat should never be worn together. Not wanted. No cardigans. Allowed during service.”

Air India said foundation and concealer matching skin tone is mandatory. “Crew must wear full make-up as per the new uniform guidelines for all flight duties using the company shade card.

Eyeshadow, lipstick, nail paint and hair shade cards are strictly adhered to as per the uniform. Personal shade products are not permitted in these four.
