Airtel users will now have to pay more for the minimum recharge which will be Rs. 99 to Rs. 155 has been done.

This could set a precedent for industry-wide rate hikes by other telecom service providers as well, reports say.

Bharti Airtel has now introduced higher minimum recharge plans in 18 circles which may raise similar rates from other telecom service providers.

Reports say that the minimum recharge is now Rs. 155 while earlier Rs. 99, 109 and 111 were the plans.

The Sunil Mittal-led telecom company had hiked circle rates in Odisha and Haryana in November 2022 and has now hiked it. Base prepaid rates across India. The schemes were introduced in 16 more circles this week.

Bharti Airtel has 36% of the subscriber market in 18 circles where it has increased rates. So far, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra are the four circles where higher recharge plans are yet to be introduced. Airtel’s previous Rs. 99-pack offers users limited talk time, which is deducted from the balance based on the duration of each call. Its validity was 28 days.

However, Airtel started canceling this plan in November last year. Users now have Rs. 155 entry-level plan has to be selected.

This will provide them with unlimited talk time which is also valid for 28 days and comes with 1 GB of internet data and 300 SMS.

Announcing the revised entry plan, an Airtel spokesperson said: “We are confident that this plan will prove more flexibility, convenience, and better value.”

While the new plan may draw back users who had to pay 57% more than what they paid for the basic plan earlier, it helps Airtel increase its ARPU.
