An Exclusive Interview with Amit Kapur, Managing Director of Vedatya, a private college in Gurgaon that offers degree, diploma, and certificate programs
Amit Kapur, Managing Director of Vedatya, leads one of Gurgaon’s distinguished private colleges offering degree, diploma, and certificate programs.
With a vision to combine academic excellence and industry relevance, Vedatya has built a strong reputation for nurturing employable talent. In this interview, Amit shares insights on education, innovation, and shaping future-ready professionals.
How has Vedatya leveraged technology to transform both student learning and campus operations in recent years?
Amit Kapur: At Vedatya, we believe in using technology to create a more dynamic and accessible learning environment. We’ve transitioned to a paperless campus for administrative and academic functions, which not only improves efficiency but also aligns with our sustainability goals.
For student learning, we use a blended learning approach that combines traditional classroom instruction with digital tools. Students have access to a rich repository of online resources, and we use virtual platforms for workshops, guest lectures, and collaborative projects, allowing for a seamless integration of learning both on and off campus.
This also extends to our campus operations, where we’ve implemented digital solutions for everything from student services to facility management through a customized student information system (SIS).
Could you share examples of how applied learning at Vedatya connects with sustainability and real-world application across programs?
Amit Kapur: Our applied learning model is deeply connected to sustainability and real-world application. We don’t just teach theory; we give students practical experiences.
In our hospitality program, students learn to make their own beer and wine. This hands-on process teaches them about fermentation, quality control, and the science behind beverages.
This is combined with our business program, where students take the lead on managing the entire process, including planning the logistics, managing financials, and creating marketing strategies.
They apply these skills by organizing and executing real events on campus, such as our annual gala or a themed dinner.
These events are not just for practice; they are run as profitable ventures, and students are responsible for the entire P&L (Profit and Loss) statement, from budgeting and revenue generation to cost management and profit analysis.
In our culinary programs, students follow a farm-to-fork principle, sourcing local ingredients from our campus gardens and nearby farms. This not only teaches them about sustainable food production but also minimizes food miles and waste.
We also have a zero/minimal food waste policy in our kitchen practicals, encouraging students to plan and cook with efficiency.
How do Vedatya’s international partnerships, such as with IHG Academy, shape curriculum design and student industry readiness?
Amit Kapur: Our international partnerships are crucial in shaping our curriculum and ensuring our students are ready for the global industry. We have strong collaborations with institutions like Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland (CAA) and the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts.
Through our partnership with CAA, students in our culinary programs can progress to their programs in Switzerland, gaining international exposure and advanced skills.
The MoU with the Auguste Escoffier School provides our students with access to additional certifications, enhancing their career readiness.
These collaborations ensure our curriculum is globally relevant and gives our students a competitive edge. We also have a partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and an MoU with Leeds Beckett University which offers global career opportunities to our Bachelor of Business Administration students.
Are there any new global collaborations or industry tie-ups on the horizon for Vedatya?
Amit Kapur: We’re always looking to expand our network to provide more opportunities for our students. On the horizon, we’re exploring collaborations with international universities for student exchange programs and joint research initiatives.
We are also in discussions with leading global corporations in the service and business industries to create more formalized partnerships that will offer our students enhanced internship, mentorship, and placement opportunities.
What key experiences from your career shaped your leadership philosophy at Vedatya?
Amit Kapur: My leadership philosophy at Vedatya is deeply influenced by a belief in student-centricity and the power of applied learning.
My career has taught me that true leadership isn’t about giving orders; it’s about empowering others to learn, innovate, and make independent decisions.
I’ve always focused on creating an environment where faculty are encouraged to conduct research and consulting, bringing a current, real-world perspective to the classroom. I believe in cultivating leaders who are not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them, and who understand the importance of empathy and teamwork.
How do your personal pursuits like endurance sports, high-altitude climbing, or music influence your approach to leadership and education
Amit Kapur: My personal pursuits – Ironman and Ultramarathons – have profoundly shaped my approach to leadership and education.
The Ironman triathlon taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, and meticulous planning. In a way, they mirror the educational journey: a series of small, difficult steps that lead to a significant achievement.
You must be prepared for the unexpected and have the mental fortitude to push through challenges. It also taught me about harmony and collaboration.
Just as a successful triathlon requires each discipline to be in sync, a successful institution requires every member of the team—faculty, staff, and students—to work together to create something beautiful and impactful.
What are Vedatya’s strategic priorities for the next five years in terms of programs, sustainability, and innovation?
Amit Kapur: Looking ahead, our strategic priorities for the next five years are focused on three key areas:
- Programs: We will continue to evolve our curriculum to integrate emerging fields like data analytics, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation across all our programs, from hospitality to business. We aim to keep upgrading our programs to align with industry demand.
- Sustainability: We’re committed to becoming a leader in sustainable education. We plan to invest significantly in renewable energy solutions, such as a major solar power installation, and implement innovative green initiatives like a “green wall” on our campus buildings. We will continue to embed sustainability into every aspect of our curriculum and operations.
- Innovation: We will foster a culture of innovation by establishing dedicated labs and module where students can develop and test their entrepreneurial ideas. We will also expand our research and development capabilities, encouraging faculty and students to collaborate on projects that solve real-world problems. This focus on innovation will ensure our graduates are not just job seekers but job creators.
Under Amit Kapur’s leadership, Vedatya continues to redefine private education with its focus on quality learning, skill development, and industry integration.
His perspective highlights the importance of preparing students for evolving global opportunities. This dialogue reflects not just Vedatya’s journey, but Amit’s unwavering commitment to empowering the next generation through transformative education.
