Inspirational Success Story of Baba Kalyani, Founder of Bharat Forge

Babasaheb Kalyani was born on 7 January 1949 in a Lingayat family. His father’s name is Mr. Neelakanth Kalyani and his mother’s name is Mrs. Sulochana. His father is an automotive component maker and Pune-based technocrat. The first car that Kalyani owned at the age of 14 was the modest Fiat 1100. Kalyani was 14 years old when he began car driving.

Baba Kalyani completed his high school from Rashtriya Military School, Belgaum. Kalyani obtained a BE (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering degree in 1970 from BITS Pilani. He received his MS degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Baba Kalyani joined a global manufacturing company, Bharat Forge in 1972. Bharat Forge is the world’s second-largest forgings manufacturing company after ThyssenKrupp of Germany. It is the flagship company of the Kalyani Group.

Baba Kalyani is the founder of the Pratham Foundation which was established in 2000. The Pune Education Foundation is engaged in providing primary education to children of the local community, who belonging to underprivileged sections.

Baba Kalyani set up Kenersys Limited to contribute to a clean and emission-free environment and has its own wind turbines in Maharashtra which generate “green energy”. The Kenersys Limited is engaged in manufacturing various energy-efficient wind turbines for domestic and international markets.

Kalyani is also engaged in the manufacturing of solar energy equipment for the non-conventional energy sector. Bharat Forge Limited is developing a hybrid solution in a joint venture with KPIT Cummins that would contribute to the country.

Baba Kalyani received the Padma Bhushan award by the Indian government for contributions to Trade and Industry. The Kalyani Group announced a joint venture with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel in 2015.
