Who is Boman Irani
Boman Irani is an Indian actor. He is also voice artist & photographer. He works in Hindi films & theatre. At the age of 41, he did his first film “Everybody says I’m fine”.
He made his film debut in 2003 with horror film Darna Mana Hai. In 2003, he had his first commercial success with comedy film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.
He acted in many successful productions like Main Hoon Na, Veer Zaara, No Entry, Heyy Babyy, Kismat Konnection, Don, Housefull, Dostana, Jolly LLB, Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran etc.
Boman Irani’s highetd grossing films are Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Don 2, 3 Idiots, Dilwale, Housefull 2, Sanju & Total Dhamaal. He won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for 3 Idiots. On 24th January 2019, he launched his production house Irani Movietone.
Early life of Boman Irani
On 2nd December 1959, Irani was born in Nagpada, Mumbai, Maharashtra to an Irani Zoroastrian family. He lost his father before 6 months of his birth.
During childhood, he was suffering from dyslexic, as well as having ADHD and a lisp, which he eventually overcame. His mother encouraged him to watch movies at alexander cinema often.
He went there daily after school to observe their cinematography and art. He completed his schooling from St. Mary’s School. After schooling he under took a 2-year waiter course at Mithibai College Mumbai.
After completion of that course, he joined the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower as a waiter & in room service. After two years of that job he joined at hotel’s rooftop French restaurant, Rendezvous.
Up to the age of 32, he also managed the bakery & namkeen shop of his mother. They used to make & sell potato chips & tea there.
Personal life of Boman Irani
Boman married to Zenobia Irani. The couple have three children. Two of them are Danesh & Kayoze Irani.
Entrepreneurial journey of Boman Irani
Photography is his hobby. He purchased his first camera from the tip of Taj Mahal hotel. He did freelancer photography for Times of India but he got real breakthrough in Miss India contest.
At the age of 32, he shot for World Boxing Championship. He shot the first portfolio of TV actress Sanaya Irani. He was requested to become the official photographer of the World Cup.
After that, his photos and his passion impressed Adajania, he appointed Irani as the official photographer. Meanwhile, he became the photographer for the Norwegian boxing team and photographed specific photos.
During 1981 to 1983, Boman trained under acting coach Hansraj Siddhia. Alyque Padamsee was his mentor – the veteran theatre actor.
He was best known for his role as Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Gandhi—whom he was introduced to by Shiamak Davar. Boman’s first theatrical appearance was in Roshni. Irani’s most illustrious play was ‘I Am Not Bajirao’ that ran for 10 years.
Bollywood Career of Boman Irani
In 2000, he moved to on screen acting with some advertisements like Fanta, Krackjack & Ceat. He made his film debut with Darna Mana Hai. That film with Saif Ali Khan was declared hit & he was one of the most remembered segments.
In 2003, in a comedy film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. his role as Dr. Asthana earned him a Filmfare Award nomination as Best Comedian. Later in Lage Raho Munna Bhai he received several IIFA Awards.
In 3 Idiots, he earned a Filmfare Award and a Star Screen Award for Best Actor in a Villainous Role. He played comedy roles in many films like Main Hoon NA, Dostana, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Waqt:
The Race Against Time, Housefull 2, Cocktail & many more. People remember his negative roles in Don, Don 2 & Eklavya. Even he did supporting role for Veer-Zaara, Lakshya, Sorry Bhai!, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara etc.
He hosted IIFA Awards many times, in 2008, he hosted with Ritesh Deshmukh in Bangkok, in 2009 at Makau, in 2010 at Colombo & in 2011 at Toronto. He hosted quiz show Bollywood Ka Boss also. He was there in an episode of Kaun Banega Crrorepati with Sanjay Dutt.
On 24th January 2019, Irani launched his production house named Irani Movie tone. Amitabh Bachchan unveiled the logo of that production house.
Boman worked as brand ambassador for many brands. Some of them are Exotica, Kent RO, P Mark Oil by Puri Oil (Mills), Saffola, CARS 24, Ahed NGO, Ambi Pur and many more.
