Can you share the story behind the founding of PAC Cosmetics and what inspired you to enter the beauty industry?

Bonish Jain: Since it was the family business, I had a chance to observe the industry closely. My core interest in makeup then inspired me to enter the beauty industry and work hard to make a difference.

To build on this foundation, I also pursued an intensive course in makeup under leading industry experts, enabling me to fully understand the beauty sector and its nuances.

In 2012, I recognized a significant gap in the Indian market for quality beauty products which are value for money. This insight motivated me to join PAC Cosmetics, with the mission to address that void.

Our goal was to manufacture products that meet international standards while being at par with the best in the industry. In 2016, we then identified a growing need for colour cosmetics that is tailor made for the Indian market.

This realisation drove the expansion of PAC’s product range even further, shaping the brand into what it is today.

How does PAC Cosmetics differentiate itself from other beauty brands in the market?

Bonish Jain: At PAC Cosmetics, we are dedicated to exceeding industry benchmarks by aligning our products with global standards of excellence.

Majority of our portfolio is crafted to be cruelty-free and vegan, reflecting our commitment to ethical practices and sustainability. We pride ourselves on catering to a diverse audience, addressing a wide spectrum of skin tones and preferences.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in the beauty industry, and how have you addressed them?

Bonish Jain: One of the biggest challenges PAC faced was shifting the consumer mindset that international brands are inherently superior. Indian consumers often favour international beauty products, due to the perception that international products are of better quality.

Customers in India often buy these products without considering certain fundamental factors such as differences in climatic conditions in India, and variations in skin type.

Introducing products tailored specifically for the Indian customer, required us to emphasise the importance of inclusivity and relevance.

At PAC, we prioritise developing products that cater to diverse skin tones, types, and climatic conditions.

We follow stringent product testing processes to guarantee that our products meet both basic and advanced standards, regardless of the country they reach.

This commitment to quality and relevance has been key to overcoming the challenges in the industry.

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to enter the beauty industry?

Bonish Jain: My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to work hard, remain persistent, and to never let your passion wane. Starting a business isn’t a walk in the park and the initial days are bound to be challenging, with criticism and setbacks.

Successful entrepreneurs don’t allow criticism to deter them. Instead, they use it to turn the tide for their business.

On challenging days, it’s important to turn to family or mentors for support and encouragement—they can provide the strength needed to persevere.

Trust, ethics, and values must always remain the cornerstones of any entrepreneurial journey.

Holding onto these principles, can guide entrepreneurs toward success. Furthermore, working diligently, with integrity, will deliver results.
