Non-Fried Chana Dal Pakoda Recipe – How to make Chana Dal Pakoda at Home in appam maker

In Gujarat Dal Vada, Chana Dal Pakoda are very popular. Gujarati people use to make or eat this fried snack during monsoon.

But from my point of view, it is not advisable to eat fried farsan/snack often. So, I tried to make same chana dal vada in appam maker.

And believe me it was very delicious. One main benefit of cooking any recipe in appam maker is it consumes very less oil but gives same crispy texture from out side.

You can eat same crispy vada without frying, and without guilt. So, let’s enjoy cooking Non-Fried Chana Dal Pakoda this monsoon.

Preparation time-10 to 15 minutes
Soaking time-4 to 5 hours
Cooking time-12 to 15 minutes

Ingredients to make Non-Fried Chana Dal Pakoda

1/2 cup chana dal
1 tablespoon chopped garlic (opt.)
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
2 to 3 green chilies
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon rice flour
Oil for greasing

For Green Chutney:

1/2 cup fresh coriander leaves
1/4 cup freshly chopped mint leaves
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon peanuts
3 to 4 green chilies
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/4 teaspoon oil
1 teaspoon jeggary (gud) (opt.)
1 teaspoon chopped garlic (opt.)

Mehtod to make Non-Fried Chana Dal Pakoda

  • Wash and soak chana dal in warm water for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Add salt, green chilly, ginger and garlic to it. Churn it and make coarse paste with minimum water.
  • Keep aside for 10 to 15 minutes. Add rice flour and beat properly for minimum 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Make small balls from it.
  • Grease appam maker and place chana dal balls to it. add few drops of oil over it and cook at medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Turn and again cook for 5 minutes or until crisp. Add few drops of oil at this stage if needed.
  • When ready serve hot Non-Fried Chana Dal Vada with green chutney.

For Green Chutney:

  • Churn all ingredients and make smooth paste.
