India has a diverse fitness culture. How did you navigate the challenges and opportunities specific to the bodybuilding scene in India to reach the level of success you’ve achieved?

Chitharesh Natesan: Navigating India’s diverse fitness culture involved embracing both challenges and opportunities. I leveraged my Malayali roots, integrating traditional elements like Kalari martial arts into my training, and adhered to a balanced diet inspired by Kerala’s cuisine.

Challenges included societal expectations favoring traditional careers. To overcome this, I relied on the unwavering support of my family and honed my financial stability through a government job. This allowed me to pursue bodybuilding without compromising and ultimately reach the level of success I’ve achieved today.

Your achievements are remarkable, including being crowned Mr. Universe. Could you walk us through the preparation and dedication required to compete at such a high level on the international stage?

It entailed a meticulously structured training routine that included strength training, cardiovascular workouts, and flexibility exercises, each day focused on different muscle groups. My dietary regimen was closely monitored, emphasizing lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats.

Caloric intake was adjusted based on training goals, and as competitions neared, carbohydrate consumption was reduced for a lean physique while preserving muscle. Staying well-hydrated was paramount. Beyond the physical aspect, mental fortitude played a pivotal role, involving visualization, goal setting, and affirmations.

Unwavering support from my family and the unwavering dedication of my wife were indispensable in sustaining such commitment.

Nutrition is equally crucial, focusing on lean protein sources, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats while closely monitoring calorie intake to align with training goals. Hydration is essential. Rest and recovery periods between intense training sessions are incorporated to prevent overtraining and optimize performance. Mental resilience through visualization, goal setting, and affirmations helps maintain motivation.
