An Exclusive Interview with Dilbir Sahani, a dynamic entrepreneur, founder & CEO of IndoBangkok
In this engaging interview, Dilbir Sahani, the dynamic Founder & CEO of IndoBangkok, shares his entrepreneurial journey, vision, and the inspiration behind building a venture that bridges opportunities across regions.
With passion and foresight, he discusses the challenges, strategies, and values that drive IndoBangkok toward innovation and sustainable growth.
Can you tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to start IndoBangkok?
Dilbir Sahani: I grew up in Vijayawada and landed in Thailand in the late ’90s. I did whatever jobs came my way; selling CDs, teaching English, even translating at restaurants just to get by.
As I picked up the language, I started helping Indian tourists, and that’s when I noticed something big, there was a real gap. Indians needed someone who understood both cultures and could get things done on the ground.
That insight sparked IndoBangkok. I started it in 2000 with a focus on tourism, then moved into films in 2001 and weddings by 2006. What began as a way to survive slowly turned into something much bigger. It became a bridge between India and Thailand. Today, that same drive still powers everything we do.
Can you walk us through the early challenges you faced as a founder and how you overcame them?
Dilbir Sahani: Oh, there were plenty. Language barriers, cultural gaps, no network, no money, you name it. I even slept on office floors at one point just to keep things going. But every time I hit a wall, I told myself: “Ho jaayega.”
I forced myself to learn Thai, I built relationships one cup of tea at a time, and I kept showing up even when the odds were against me.
Slowly, people started trusting me. And in this business, trust is everything. Once that came in, opportunities followed. That’s really how IndoBangkok was built, brick by brick, relationship by relationship.
What’s your approach to partnerships, expansion, and building a strong network?
Dilbir Sahani: Relationships are everything. For me, a handshake is as important as a contract. I’ve always believed in fairness and long-term thinking, because in industries like films and weddings, people remember how you made them feel.
If you deliver honestly, they’ll call you again, and they’ll bring others along. That’s really how we built IndoBangkok. We didn’t chase transactions, we invested in people, in trust, and in creating value that lasts beyond a single project.
IndoBangkok operates at the intersection of India and Thailand—what unique opportunities and synergies do you see between these two markets?
Dilbir Sahani: India brings scale, creativity, and an endless pool of stories. Thailand brings world-class hospitality, reliable infrastructure, and efficiency. Put them together, and you have a powerful combination that works beautifully across industries, whether it’s films, weddings, trade, or tourism.
What makes it exciting is how complementary the two cultures are, India loves to dream big, and Thailand knows how to make those dreams run smoothly. Having lived and worked in both worlds, I’ve learned how to bridge that gap, making the collaboration not just possible but seamless.
What are the key cultural or business differences between India and Thailand that entrepreneurs should be mindful of?
Dilbir Sahani: Patience. In India, things move fast, people push harder. In Thailand, relationships take time, and respect is very important. You can’t just bulldoze your way through. You have to listen, adapt, and earn trust. Once you understand that, doors open.
How do you see digital transformation impacting Indo-Thai trade and collaborations?
Dilbir Sahani: I believe digital transformation is shrinking the world and at the same time expanding it. Whether it’s film crews coordinating remotely, weddings being planned over Zoom, or trade happening through e-commerce, technology has made India and Thailand feel closer than ever.
For IndoBangkok, it means we can take on bigger projects, move faster, and connect with clients around the globe.
What once took weeks of travel, in-person meetings, and endless logistics can now be done in hours, with clarity, speed, and creativity still intact. Real-time communication and access to global talent have removed traditional boundaries and expanded what’s possible.
This doesn’t just connect countries, it connects ideas, people, and possibilities. And for us, that means more innovation, more agility, and more impact.
Which industries or customer segments have been most responsive to IndoBangkok’s offerings so far?
Dilbir Sahani: Films and weddings are the obvious ones, but beyond that, we’ve had great success with corporates, lifestyle brands, and even OTT platforms.
From product launches to brand shoots and original content, we’ve helped a wide range of clients tell their stories in Thailand while staying connected to their roots in India.
Basically, anyone looking to create impact in Thailand with a strong link to India, that’s where we come in.
With a deep understanding of both cultures, seamless on-ground execution, and a digital-first approach, IndoBangkok bridges the gap and brings ideas to life across borders.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to build businesses across borders?
Dilbir Sahani: Don’t overthink. Just start. You’ll never have all the answers on day one. Learn the culture, respect the people, and keep your word.
If you can do that, opportunities will find you. And one more thing, don’t chase shortcuts. Build meaningful relationships, not just businesses.
Dilbir Sahani’s story is a testament to determination, adaptability, and the power of bold ideas. Through IndoBangkok, he continues to shape cross-border opportunities while inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
His journey reflects not just business success but a commitment to innovation, resilience, and creating lasting impact in the global entrepreneurial landscape.
