Tell us a little about yourself

Dr. Adit Desai: I did my Schooling from Ahmedabad. For my MBBS degree, I visited Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad which is a govt college.

After finishing my degree in 2017, I joined our charitable trust (Shri Harihar Maharaj Charitable Trust) on their project of building a 300-bed multispeciality hospital in Ahmedabad.

I was the lead of the team commissioning the project. After the launch, the managed the hospital as an MD till 2020 before starting my entrepreneurial journey of DocTutorials.

Please tell us a little about your entrepreneurial journey

Dr. Adit Desai: Started of as NEET PG online coaching platform with my co-founders Adwik and Karteek, we went to add 2 more courses over the last 1 year namely NEET SS & FMGE.

We have about 2l+ students using or platform and 45+ faculties exclusively teaching our students. Our vision is to ensure that each and every medical student has a primary source of education despite of their economic condition or the condition of their medical college and ensure that every Doctor of New India is equipped with the knowledge to serve the people of India

Kindly brief us about your company, its specialization, and the services that it offers

Dr. Adit Desai: Online coaching for medical students preparing for NEET PG, NExT, NEETSS, INISS, INICET AND FMGE.

What is your biggest USP

Dr. Adit Desai: One stop solution for all entrance exams of a medical student at an affordable rate. Top faculties of India will teach each and every student regardless of background or demographic limitation

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur and start your own business?

Dr. Adit Desai: Being a doctor, having been through the grind for my entrance exam, we saw the gap which was that medical students don’t have a source of education that they can access at their convenience.

They had to follow schedules or college, tuitions etc to prepare which was very inconvenient and cumbersome.

And also the lack of good teachers in my city. So we decided to group the best teachers of India on a single platform and make content available to students so they can prepare at their own convenience.

What was your mission and vision at the outset?

Dr. Adit Desai: To have a product for each and every medical student of India regardless of which year they are studying and be a part of their journey right form Year 1.

To be a part of their journey at EVERY step, and help them acquire the skills and knowledge required to be the best doctor.

How do you stay up-to-date with the latest technology and industry trends, and how has innovation played a role in your success?

Dr. Adit Desai: 150 including offline sales team. We believe in having a lean but efficient team

What’s your company’s goals?

Dr. Adit Desai: To be a part of every medical student’s preparations. To bring a change to orthodox medical education’s ways and means to disburse knowledge and to provide Indian with a better equipped set of Doctors, knowledge and skill wise.

What was the inspiration behind turning an entrepreneur

Dr. Adit Desai: My family. No one has ever worked for anyone in my family. Being a Gujarati, the idea of having one;s own business is ingrained in us since birth and that pushed me to start something of my own.

What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

Dr. Adit Desai: While Trying to inculcate trust amongst medical student regarding our app in the first 1 year, biggest mistake we made was to think that Content is everything.

Later we realised that not just content, but the entire experience of a student on our App is equally important.

We made a very basic app with great content. Realising that the student’ experience on our App was below average based on feedback, we started to make changes in the app in terms of UIUX and features.

This actually pushed us back by a few months as we had lost the trust of students. And to regain that, it took even more time than we anticipated.

So online education now is not just about content, it is about the WHOLE experience of a student on the App.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Dr. Adit Desai: Whether your idea is new and is actually helping to achieve a larger goal for a large set of population. Your co-founders (if you have any), whether they hold the same vision as you or not. And ofcourse the money, whether you have enough funding to create a minimum viable product.

Your success tips for young and aspiring entrepreneurs

Dr. Adit Desai: Go all-in. Forget everything for the first 3 years and only work towards your goal. EVERYTHING else can wait. If you lose track of your direction in the first 3 years, you’ve lost the battle.

Work towards making a sustainable and profitable company within the first 4 years. Valuation will follow automatically. And hire only those that are required. Have a lean, but efficient team.
