Dr. C. J Vetrievel is a founder, chairman and managing director of Be Well Hospitals, a Multispeciality Hospital in Tamil Nadu.
He is a Orthopedic Surgeon and has practised medicine for a decade at various international medical institutions in Maldives, Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
Prior to founding Be Well hospitals, I was the Chief Operating Officer of the Projects Division of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai and held many senior position in the Apollo Hospitals group and was the In charge to Setting up large scale of hospitals in India and abroad.

Dr. C. J Vetrievel: Be Well Hospital is a chain of ‘Small Giant’ Multispecialty hospitals creating accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare infrastructure. We provide Orthopedics, Critical Care, Paediatrics, ENT, General Surgery & Laproscopy, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Urology treatments at affordable rates.
Tell us something about Be Well Hospital
Dr. C. J Vetrievel: Started in 2011, today, Be Well Hospitals are present in 11 peri-urban / towns across Tamil Nadu. Being an Emergency and Multi-Specialty Secondary Care Hospital, the model of healthcare delivery ensures accessible and quality healthcare.
The goal of the group is to continue spreading awareness on health in engaging ways to ensure the wellbeing of all.
Be Well will become the first organised private player in this “secondary plus healthcare model”, an integrator between primary and tertiary care hospitals.
What is your mission and vision at the outset?
Dr. C. J Vetrievel: Vision: Accessible, Affordable & Quality Healthcare by compassionate team
Mission: To establish a chain of quality high-end secondary care hospitals to create a new order of healthcare delivery model in India.
What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
Dr. C. J Vetrievel: Geographical selection: With our initial thought we were spreading thinly and establishing hospitals at different geography quite far apart.
We learnt we should adopt a cluster approach and grow. Through this learning we are now growing our Chennai Peri Urban Cluster and soon will look at other clusters in TamilNadu like Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Tirunelveli etc
During the early days we failed to adopt Digital solutions for various reasons like capital availability, user skill sets etc.
As soon as we realised we have strengthened ourselves by introducing digital solutions and also training our work force to adopt technology as a continuous process.
What was the inspiration behind turning an entrepreneur or Startup
Dr. C. J Vetrievel: The Health Care Delivery System is fragmented in our Country compared to developed countries. There was a compelling need for an organised network of hospitals like Be Well (addressing accessibility, affordability and Quality care to all) which could disrupt the way health care is delivered in our Country.
This inspiration fuelled along with my family background ( every one are business owners except me who decided to become a Doctor) made me take a bold decision to start my entrepreneurial journey.
Your success tips for young and aspiring entrepreneurs and startups
Dr. C. J Vetrievel: Focus on real time problems, innovate and find solutions. Capital is available and you should be prudent in expansion.
There are always peril when you scale. Ensure fundamentally you build a strong foundation and dream of creating institutions that will last for generations and that will help improve common man’s lives.
