An interview with Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan – Co-founder and medical director of UWAY Health
In this enlightening interview, Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan, Co-founder and Medical Director of UWAY Health, shares his vision of empowering health through technology.
With a passion for innovation, Dr. Nambisan discusses how UWAY Health is revolutionizing healthcare delivery, focusing on making healthcare more accessible, efficient, and patient-centered.
What inspired the creation of UWAY Health, and how did you decide to merge ancient Ayurvedic wisdom with modern health care practices?
Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan: The inspiration to start UWAY Health came from my healthcare industry experience and my co-founder’s 20+ years of clinical expertise, managing chronic cases and leading care in renowned Ayurveda hospitals.
We identified significant gaps in Ayurveda healthcare delivery, where patient outcomes and evolving expectations were often unmet. While many turn to Ayurveda for chronic conditions, there is a growing demand for personalized, effective care.
UWAY Health was created to bridge these gaps by integrating ancient Ayurvedic practices with modern healthcare, advanced diagnostics, technology, and personalized treatments to deliver superior outcomes and redefine patient care.
How do you see Ayurveda fitting into the global wellness conversation today, especially as people become more conscious of holistic health practices?
Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan: The global Ayurveda market is rapidly growing, valued at approximately USD 14.4 billion in 2023 and projected to reach USD 74.6 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 27.2%.
India plays a key role, with the Ministry of AYUSH exclusively dedicated to promoting Ayurveda. Institutions like the Centre for Integrative Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi, and the Department of Integrative Medicine at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, further Ayurveda’s integration with modern healthcare.
These advancements highlight Ayurveda’s increasing global relevance as demand for natural and holistic health solutions rises.
Ayurveda has a unique role in the global wellness conversation today as more people seek holistic and sustainable health solutions. Its emphasis on personalized care, natural remedies, and balance aligns with the growing awareness of mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
In a world increasingly conscious of preventive health, Ayurveda’s focus on lifestyle, diet, and mindfulness offers a comprehensive approach. By integrating seamlessly with modern wellness trends, Ayurveda is not just a tradition but a timeless solution that resonates globally.
UWAY Health focuses on integrating Ayurveda into everyday routines. What are some of the key Ayurvedic practices or principles that you believe can significantly improve modern lifestyles?
Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan: UWAY Health focuses on seamlessly integrating Ayurveda and Yoga into peoples lives for curative, preventive, and wellness care. The focus is on creating awareness about their practical application for specific issues, combining self-care with timely doctor consultations. It’s also vital to understand Ayurveda’s limitations and avoid unverified practices.
Key Ayurvedic practices to enhance modern lifestyles include:
- Dinacharya (Daily Routine): Adopting habits like waking early, oil pulling, and self-massage (Abhyanga) to promote physical and mental balance.
- Customized Diet: Eating based on one’s dosha (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha) to optimize digestion and energy levels.
- Mind-Body Practices: Practicing yoga, meditation, and pranayama to manage stress and improve emotional health.
- Seasonal Living (Ritucharya): Adjusting routines and diets with seasonal changes to stay in harmony with nature.
These time-tested practices provide practical tools to manage stress, enhance vitality, and achieve sustainable well-being in today’s fast-paced world.
Can you walk us through your product development process? How do you source these ingredients, and how important is sustainability in your approach to product development?
Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan: UWAY does not manufacture medicines. Similar to Allopathy, our doctors prescribe medicines from reputable Ayurveda pharmaceutical companies known for their quality and efficacy.
This approach allows our doctors to select and combine medicines from various manufacturers to ensure patients receive the best treatment for their condition, leading to improved clinical outcomes.
Are there any exciting upcoming initiatives or products that people can look forward to?
Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan: UWAY is in the process of rolling out clinics in Bangalore and Hyderabad, focused on delivering superior clinical outcomes.
Equipped with advanced tools, these clinics will empower our doctors to provide precise and effective care while ensuring patients receive the highest quality wellness and curative treatments.
Our expanding network will ensure continuity of care, enabling patients to access top doctors and achieve better management of chronic diseases. These initiatives underscore our commitment to redefining healthcare through exceptional patient outcomes.
Dr. P.T. Keshavan Nambisan’s insights highlight the transformative power of technology in healthcare. His leadership at UWAY Health is paving the way for a healthier future, where technology and wellness go hand in hand to improve lives.
