An interview with Dr. Shilpi Bhadani, Plastic, and Aesthetic surgeon, Founder of SB Aesthetics

In this insightful interview, we sit down with Dr. Shilpi Bhadani, a renowned plastic and aesthetic surgeon and the visionary founder of SB Aesthetics.

With her extensive expertise and passion for enhancing natural beauty, Dr. Bhadani shares her journey in the field of cosmetic surgery, discussing the latest trends, patient care, and the importance of individualized treatment plans.

Can you share with us what inspired you to pursue a career in plastic and aesthetic surgery?

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani: When I decided to pursue medicine as a career, it was Plastic Surgery that interested me the most. Even as a young medical student I was always dreaming about being a Plastic Surgeon and I am lucky that my dream has been realised.

This perhaps stems from the fact that it excites me to create/hone beauty. As a child too I had ample exposure to surgical books as my father is also a Surgeon. He used to tell me interesting anecdotes from Hospital and my first impressions about medicine was surgical.

My mother on the other hand is extremely good at needle-art. This I believe may have played a very important part in my choosing my life path as a surgeon.

I often tell them that God blessed me with the best of your skills! But honestly, it was a conscientious decision because I really believe that this is the branch in medicine which I would practice with all my interest and dedication because it excites me to be doing what I do.

Changing lives for the better and helping people achieve their dreams. The route to become a Plastic Surgeon is arduous and one needs tenacity to keep pushing oneself to achieve one’s goal.

What do you believe sets SB Aesthetics apart from other practices in the field?

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani: SB Aesthetics, was established with the goal of Quality and compassion. It is conveniently located just about 12km from the InternationaI airport in New Delhi. always wanted to have all Aesthetic services under one roof.

During my fellowship in Montreux, Switzerland, I saw this being done and the experience for the patients was so seamless. I wanted to recreate that in India and offer world class aesthetic services under one roof.

Whether it is surgical or non-surgical aesthetics, I am proud to say that we have it all.  We are one of the pioneering centres for training of aesthetic Surgery in India, I am regularly involved in training for dermal fillers, threads as a part of non-surgical aesthetics.

The patients need to have options in their hand and need to be empowered to make their choices. This is possible only when we offer both.

If I was offering only Surgical or non-surgical alone then it wouldn’t be as comprehensive. I am really proud to say that whether it is surgery or non-surgical aesthetics with lasers, fillers, hair therapies, fillers, threads, Botox, we have it all.

At SB Aesthetics we are committed to quality care not only till your procedure or surgery but even after that.

How do you approach patient consultations and ensure that you fully understand their expectations and concerns?

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani: Consultation is the first step to building trust between the patient and the surgeon. I usually ask them their concerns and try and suggest a lasting solution to it. Sometimes the patients may have a wrong notion about a result and they are confused as to what can be practically achieved.

It is at these times that my huge library of before after results of my previous patients becomes handy and is very helpful in setting the right expectations. Another very important aspect of my consultation is that we never push for more change than are required and that helps us keep our results natural.

Many a times we are dealing with patients who come in feeling terrible about themselves and I make sure that they walk out with their confidence restored and feeling better about themselves of having hope to find a lasting solution to their aesthetic worries.

What steps do you take to ensure the safety and well-being of your patients before, during, and after surgery?

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani: The safety check starts at the consultation itself. From a thorough medical history which is a must for every patient to blood checks, looking into their past medical history, the medications they are currently on makes a sound ground for us to make a safety net.

During the surgery, me and my team of doctors and nursing staff make sure that all safety protocols are followed.

My Operating room is equipped with all the latest devices. There is a safety protocol that we have outlined for every surgery and the entire team is on the same page when it comes to prioritising safety for may patients.

What current trends in aesthetic surgery do you find most exciting or promising?

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani: Restoring or creating Natural beauty is what excites me the most. Sometime earlier we did see a lot of overdone work and even people were pushing for it but that was not to last. A good Aesthetic surgery should be subtle and difficult to point out yet should achieve a very pleasing change.

I have always been an advocate of natural enhancements and changes. I am truly happy that this change is coming about in patients and surgeons and aesthetic practitioners, and they are creating more subtle work.

What are some common misconceptions about plastic and aesthetic surgery that you frequently encounter?

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani: Oh! The most common would be that we are always using silicone for all our work! That is so not true. Aesthetic surgery usually is not using any silicone for most of the surgeries. This is the era of natural materials in Plastic surgery.

Our body has enough tissue on its own to create the changes that we want. We are using one’s own fat to give enhancements, or there is cartilage being used for rhinoplasties.

Fat grafting of the face is the new kid on the block, instead of hyaluronic acid fillers which are temporary. Here is so much that we can do without using any external material!

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in plastic and aesthetic surgery?

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani: As I have mentioned earlier too that the path is long and arduous but if your passion lies in this then go for it! India has not even started realising it’s potential now. There is a huge population that is increasingly becoming conscious of how they carry themselves.

Hard work and focus has no alternatives. Another thing that I will like to say is, Don’t be wary of competitors.

Quality, compassion and consistency in delivering results take one further than one can imagine. Don’t be after short-cuts. I am still on my journey and am quite excited for what the future holds for me.

Dr. Shilpi Bhadani’s commitment to excellence and her holistic approach to beauty have established her as a leader in the industry. Her insights into the future of aesthetic surgery promise to inspire both patients and aspiring surgeons alike.
