Dr Shreepad Khedekar

An exclusive interview with Dr. Shreepad Khedekar, MD & Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery

Welcome to an insightful interview with Dr. Shreepad Khedekar, an esteemed medical professional holding both an MD and a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery (BHMS) degree. Dr. Khedekar’s extensive expertise in the field of homeopathy coupled with his commitment to patient care has earned him a distinguished reputation in the medical community.

Throughout his career, Dr. Khedekar has dedicated himself to advancing the understanding and application of homeopathic principles in healthcare, making him a valuable resource for both colleagues and patients alike. Join us as we delve into Dr. Khedekar’s journey, insights, and contributions to the field of homeopathy.

Can you share with us your journey into the field of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery? What motivated you to pursue this path?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: Certainly… Having failed to secure a seat for MBBS in Mumbai by a whisker, my mother instinctively thought that I could still be a good medical professional due to my love and natural inclination for life sciences and math.

And as it’s called, ‘The path of least Resistance’ a beautiful opportunity came up in a Homeopathic college in Karnataka, where no donation needed to be paid and I could still become a doctor of medicine in Homeopathy. We gladly accepted this and I embarked on my journey.

As both an MD and Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery, how do you integrate traditional homeopathic practices with modern medical approaches in your practice?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: Like with any evolving science, Homeopathy has its own advantages and disadvantages. I look at its great strengths and try to fortify them further. The greatest gap in homeopathy is that it is too philosophical for the untrained mind.

There are a lot of scriptures written some 250 years ago which have great merit, especially if understood in the light of the ever-advancing medical technology. Homeopathy was discovered by a German physician and scientist ‘Dr. Hahnemann’ when even a compound microscope wasn’t available at his disposal, but the principle of homeopathy is universally indisputable.

My job is just to join the dots. That is to understand the age-old scriptures in the light of modern Genetics, immunology, proteomics and biochemistry, almost as if the great scientist ‘Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’ discovered homeopathy in 2024 with all the advancements of medical technology at his disposal.

What are some common misconceptions people have about homeopathy, and how do you address them in your practice?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: Well, as you rightly said, these are misconceptions. Placebo therapy, zero medicinal molecules in dilutions, slow acting treatment modules, only suited for chronic pathologies, etc.

Referring to the previous question, if one applies the universal principles of Homeopathy to the advances of modern biotechnology and medicine of today, all the misconceptions can be easily mitigated and deflected to be just the extreme opposite.

Homeopathy is fast and accurate! The greatest example in chemistry is that ‘Avogadros Number’ idea is now obsolete and the world has moved on to Nano-Particles’. A lot of research still needs to be done. We are incessantly doing our bit.

Homeopathy is often viewed as an alternative or complementary medicine. How do you see its role evolving within the broader healthcare landscape?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: It’s clearly mentioned in the bible of doctors, ‘The Harrisons Textbook of Internal Medicine’: what’s alternative today can become mainstream tomorrow. Look at how the AYUSH ministry has germinated from our own Health ministry.

Today Homeopathy is accepted as mainstream in more than 80 countries worldwide. Today’s conventional system of medicine was hopeless in the recent COVID pandemic and will remain hopeless in the ‘Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Where has the conventional system given any cures in the demonic issues of Diabetes, Blood-pressure, Cardiovascular pathologies, Skin problems, Mental developmental issues in children, etc.?

Homeopathy along with other unexplored alternative therapies on the other hand have given great results in the above especially in the hand of expert practitioners of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.

Having said that, more consistency and accuracy needs to be further infused for the greater good of humanity.

What are the key principles or philosophies that guide your approach to patient care in homeopathy?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: Application of modern sciences to universal truths will remain the key. If one tries to understand homeopathy in the light of Genetics, it would tell a different story altogether!

How do you stay updated with the latest developments and research in the field of homeopathy?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: One thing is exposure to the world and the eagerness to adapt to new technologies. Just take the example of DRS in cricket. Hasn’t it changed the decision making of umpires worldwide? If one keeps updating with the ever-changing times by engaging in international conferences, research papers, seminars, talks by experts, science journals, it’s not too difficult.

In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing homeopathy today, and how do you think they can be addressed?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: Well, there are multifactorial challenges. I personally feel, the level of teaching in Homeopathic schools and colleges needs to improved first, the rest will be a domino effect. Why is India great in cricket and not in football?

The answer is, identifying and nurturing talent is best in cricket as against in football or basketball. Great teachers and coaches play a pivotal role in any discipline, be it sport of medicine.

With the growing interest in holistic and natural therapies, what advice would you give to individuals considering homeopathic treatment?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: This is the science of the future! Stick with it.

Could you share your thoughts on the future of homeopathic medicine and its potential impact on global healthcare?

Dr Shreepad Khedekar: The future of homeopathic medicine looks promising, as it offers a natural, safe, and non-invasive approach that aligns with the WHO’s definition of health. Its emphasis on the mind-body axis, coupled with inexpensive and side-effect-free remedies contributing to a more inclusive and holistic healthcare system, promoting well-being through exercise and diet.

In conclusion, our interview with Dr. Shreepad Khedekar has shed light on the profound impact and potential of homeopathy in modern healthcare. Dr. Khedekar’s extensive knowledge, unwavering dedication, and compassionate approach exemplify the essence of a true healthcare professional.

As he continues to push the boundaries of homeopathic medicine, it is evident that his contributions will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare. We extend our gratitude to Dr. Khedekar for sharing his expertise and insights, inspiring both practitioners and patients alike to explore the possibilities of holistic healing.
