An Exclusive Interview with Dr. Vikas Aggarwal, CEO & Founder of Dentalkart, India’s Leading Online Platform for Dental Professionals
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal, CEO and Founder of Dentalkart, shares his inspiring journey from dentistry to entrepreneurship. In this conversation, he discusses innovation, challenges, and Dentalkart’s mission to empower dental professionals across India through technology and accessibility.
What inspired you to start Dentalkart, and what industry gap were you aiming to fill?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Dentalkart began from a simple realisation I had as a young dentist: procurement in dentistry was unnecessarily difficult. Product availability was inconsistent, pricing lacked transparency, and delivery timelines were unpredictable.
A dentist’s time is precious, yet a large part of daily stress came from chasing reliable supplies. The more I interacted with other clinicians, the more I understood that this was a universal challenge not an individual inconvenience.
The vision behind Dentalkart was to create an organised, dependable, and nationwide platform where dental professionals could access quality products with confidence.
We wanted to ensure that a dentist in a remote town enjoyed the same access and reliability as one practicing in a metro. Over time, this mission expanded into building India’s most structured dental supply chain.
But at its core, Dentalkart still exists to make a dentist’s work smoother, more predictable, and more empowering.
What key challenges did you face early on, and how did you overcome them?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: The initial years were shaped by a mix of practical hurdles and mindset challenges. Dentistry is a specialised field, and earning the trust of clinicians required consistent delivery and flawless service.
Many were hesitant to move away from traditional distributors. We had to prove not claim that an online model could bring more reliability and value.
On the operational side, cataloguing thousands of SKUs, aligning vendors, and setting up predictable logistics required enormous discipline.
There were no ready-made frameworks for this segment, so everything from warehouse processes to customer education had to be built from the ground up.
What helped us overcome these obstacles was staying extremely close to our customers. Every complaint, return, or delay was treated as a lesson.
We built internal strength brick by brick, ensuring that reliability became our identity. Looking back, those challenges shaped the resilience and culture of the company.
How did you understand the needs of India’s dental community, and what insights shaped your initial strategy?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Understanding India’s dental community required listening, observing, and spending real time with clinicians across cities and smaller towns.
We understood early that India’s dental ecosystem is not homogenous preferences, price sensitivity, and product behaviour change dramatically across regions. This is not an industry you can decode from the outside.
Over the years, we gathered deep insights about consumption patterns, brand preferences, stock-out pain points, and product reliability issues.
This became the backbone of our strategy: maintain the largest catalogue in India, ensure transparent pricing nationwide, focus on authenticity, and design a delivery system that works predictably even in remote areas.
The depth of this learning, accumulated slowly and consistently, later became one of our biggest strengths.
It helped us design products, select brands, and shape the platform in a way that aligns closely with how Indian dentists actually work not how the market is “assumed” to function.
How did you build Dentalkart into India’s leading online dental marketplace, and what made your approach different?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Dentalkart grew because we focused on structure, discipline, and long-term foundations rather than quick wins. Dental supply chains are intricate thousands of technical SKUs, varied storage requirements, and zero tolerance for inconsistency.
Instead of treating it like general e-commerce, we built Dentalkart as a specialised operational engine designed for healthcare-grade accuracy.
Our differentiation came from the systems we built: real-time inventory, multi-warehouse operations, intelligent routing, and the willingness to invest in catalogue depth that others typically avoid.
We focused on the unglamorous parts of the business the backend processes, documentation, QC protocols, and vendor standardisation.
Over years, these layers produced a strong operational rhythm that is extremely hard to replicate without similar depth and time investment.
But more than anything, our approach stayed rooted in serving the dentist with transparency and reliability. That clarity shaped everything we built.
How does technology drive Dentalkart’s operations and nationwide reach?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Technology enables Dentalkart to deliver healthcare-grade reliability at national scale. Our systems monitor inventory live across multiple warehouses, predict demand patterns, and route orders intelligently to minimise delivery time.
These capabilities did not appear overnight they evolved through years of observing product movement, return reasons, seasonality, and behavioural trends.
Technology helps us maintain consistency for dentists. Whether they practise in a big city or a smaller centre, they see accurate stock availability, get reliable delivery estimates, and receive automated updates.
Our backend algorithms help optimise procurement, reduce stock-outs, and maintain high fulfilment precision.
What makes technology truly powerful here is not just the tools, but the historical data supporting them. Every product, order, and customer interaction contributes to making the system stronger.
This combination of tech and accumulated intelligence allows Dentalkart to operate with the speed of e-commerce and the accuracy required in healthcare.
How do you maintain quality and reliability in sourcing and delivering dental products?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Quality in dental products cannot be managed through superficial checks it requires discipline across the entire value chain.
We source directly from manufacturers or authorised importers, ensuring product authenticity and documentation accuracy. Every SKU undergoes compliance review, batch verification, and category-specific handling protocols.
Inside the warehouse, we use controlled bin systems, expiry monitoring, equipment-safe packaging, and material-specific SOPs refined over years of handling sensitive dental products. Our multi-warehouse network further ensures minimal transit time, reducing chances of damage.
A major strength is our internal learning loop. Over the years, we have data on vendor performance, quality issues by category, return reasons, and packaging risk patterns.
This intelligence helps us prevent problems before they arise. Quality for us is not a checkpoint it is a continuous system.
In a competitive e-commerce space, how does Dentalkart stand out?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Dentalkart stands out because we built depth, not breadth. Dentistry is a specialised, high-stakes category, and the operational demands are far more intense than typical e-commerce.
With over 23,000 SKUs, strict regulatory layers, and clinical-grade QC requirements, this ecosystem demands precision and domain understanding.
What differentiates Dentalkart is the structured system behind the platform: the largest dental catalogue in India, a deeply optimised supply chain, expert product knowledge, and consistent availability across regions. Our focus has always been long-term reliability, not short-term transactions.
We also built a full ecosystem not just a marketplace. Dentists come to Dentalkart to discover new brands, watch demos, compare products, join events, and access support. That level of integration is difficult for newcomers to replicate without years of groundwork.
How have India’s healthcare changes and digital growth influenced your model and strategy?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: India’s rapid digital adoption created an environment where clinicians became more comfortable exploring products online, attending webinars, comparing brands, and seeking transparent pricing.
This aligned perfectly with our long-term approach. But the real transformation came from healthcare becoming more structured and quality-focused. Dentists expected better documentation, authenticity assurance, and consistent service levels.
Our strategy evolved accordingly. With our existing data systems and nationwide logistics, we could adapt faster anticipating demand shifts, expanding product depth, and strengthening internal compliance processes. Digital growth made the platform accessible; our historical intelligence made it dependable.
These changes reaffirmed our belief that the future of dental procurement will be built on transparency, technology, and strong supply chain fundamentals.
What is your five-year vision for Dentalkart, including new products, services, or markets?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Over the next five years, we aim to transform Dentalkart into India’s most comprehensive dental ecosystem.
The focus areas are clear: expand our warehouse network for faster delivery, push digital dentistry adoption through scanners, CAD/CAM solutions, and advanced equipment, and strengthen Smileworks to become a full-service digital lab partner.
We will also expand our own product lines across equipment, materials, and consumables, supported by strong manufacturing partnerships and R&D efforts. Our UK subsidiary marks the beginning of international expansion, allowing us to take Indian-built dental innovations to global markets.
Underlying this vision is the foundation we have built over a decade structured data, operational excellence, and deep industry understanding. These strengths will allow us to scale confidently into new verticals while staying true to our mission of empowering dental professionals.
Can you tell us more about your recently launched product and how it fits into Dentalkart’s growth strategy?
Dr. Vikas Aggarwal: Our newest launch, the Waldent BLZ 900AI Intraoral Scanner, represents the next chapter of our long-term digital dentistry roadmap.
For years, Indian clinicians have wanted advanced digital tools but faced barriers around cost, accessibility, and workflow complexity. This scanner is designed to break those barriers.
It fits seamlessly into our strategy of building an end-to-end digital ecosystem where a dentist can scan, design, and fabricate restorations through integrated Smileworks solutions.
The scanner is backed by strong after-sales service, training support, and system-level integration.
Most importantly, its development is informed by years of insights into clinician behaviour, equipment adoption patterns, and common workflow bottlenecks.
This allows us to create solutions that are practical, accessible, and aligned with Indian clinical realities.
This launch marks our intention to lead India’s digital dentistry revolution, backed by strong data, industry knowledge, and a commitment to world-class innovation.
As Dr. Vikas Aggarwal reflects on Dentalkart’s growth, his focus remains on revolutionizing dental care in India. His vision of enabling every dentist with quality products and digital convenience continues to shape the future of dental commerce.
