Ekant Singh, Principal Interior Designer of Page 2813

In an exclusive interview with Mr. Ekant Singh, Founder & CEO – Page 2813 explains How he start his entrepreneurial journey.

Tell us a little about yourself

Ekant Singh: I am a Mumbai-based furniture designer and the founder and CEO of Page2813, one of the leading furniture design and manufacturing companies in India.

I studied interior design at Jenson and Nicolson in New Delhi and then went on to study Hardware and Networking at NIIT.

After completing both these courses I decided to pursue MBA in HR in London, UK and become a Norwich Union certified general insurance professional.

Besides my education qualifications, my interests span from humanizing new design technologies and ideas to rediscovering the tradition of handmade products and bringing out the spirit of Indian modernism in the 21st century.

What defines your style when it comes to furniture and designs?

Ekant Singh: The furniture budgeting should be done right and you must follow the 70-30 formula. You should keep 30% of the total cost of the project for furniture, accessories, artwork, etc. as these will together define your space.

What is unique about your brand?

Ekant Singh: Our design ideas and quality of work are hardly comparable. We also give a 10-year warranty on the structure.

We also do a lot of experimentation with different ideas and ensure we use natural materials such as wood, Italian marble, semi-precious stone, as well as leather.

Moreover, as a traveller, I keep exploring new places that give me some unique perspectives and help me widen my horizons.

How did you get into the business of furniture designing and styling?

Ekant Singh: I always wanted to become a furniture designer. It is a rare and unique profession. The norm is to copy design ideas or buy furniture from the market but, there are very few interior designers who design original furniture pieces.

I want to follow such people and come up with my own creations. The business of furniture designing and styling for me is my passion. I want to live my passion as that is my true self.

How do you get inspired and generate ideas for furniture pieces? Do you believe in exclusivity when it comes to each furniture piece?

Ekant Singh: As I have mentioned, I travel a lot and, on the go, I observe, think, and collect materials and bring them back to the studio to make unique furniture pieces.

I do believe there has to be exclusivity in every furniture piece you make; there has to be one unique piece of furniture that should become the centre of attraction whenever guests walk into your house.

Tell us more about your team. How do you and your team blur the lines between art and furniture for every piece you design together?

Ekant Singh: There are different kinds of people both designers and non-designers who are a part of my team. They work hard alongside me to ensure Page 2813 delivers on its promise to design work-class furniture for everyone.

Besides, the best thing about my team is that they can read my mind when it comes to conceptualising and execution.

What was your inspiration behind turning an entrepreneur?

Ekant Singh: I wanted to be an entrepreneur since the very beginning. When I was growing up I knew exactly what I was getting into. I told myself till the time I turn 30, I will work under someone and learn all tricks so the trade.

I decided to quit my high-profile lucrative job as an HR and follow my passion to become a furniture designer. I am glad and thankful that it worked out well for me.

Your success tips for young and aspiring entrepreneurs?

Ekant Singh: Follow your passion! Make sure you know what you are doing and never give up. A piece of advice for people venturing into entrepreneurship: follow your heart, and do everything with dedication, passion, and honesty.
