Cleaning is one of those things that you never think about when you start a business beyond knowing you’ll need to put some of your budget aside for cleaning supplies.
That being said, keeping your office or other types of workplace sanitary and tidy is an essential part of running any business.
Not least of which being that it’s difficult to attract business if no one wants to get near your property. If you’re concerned about putting your list of supplies together, take this as a starting point. This list is filled with common supplies that most general businesses will benefit from having on hand.
1. Glass Cleaner
Almost all business buildings have windows, and there are going to be a couple of mirrors in the bathrooms.
Having glass cleaner on hand becomes essential when you want to keep a tidy workspace. While you might employ an outside business to clean your windows if they’re particularly tall or because you want a thorough job done at least once a week, you should have your own store of glass cleaners so that you can clean up fingerprints on a daily basis.
2. Floor Scrubbers
One of the best pieces of cleaning machinery that you can invest in is floor scrubbers. This machine cuts cleaning time down to a fraction of what it would take to do it with a mop and bucket.
Floor cleaners are self-propelled, making them easy for most employees to maneuver, and they come in a variety of sizes, including models that you walk behind and models that you ride.
If you have a business with a lot of hard flooring, including wood, linoleum, and tile, you could save yourself a lot of time by having a floor scrubber.
3. Disinfectant Cleaner
Now more than ever, you should have some kind of disinfectant available, both for deep cleaning and for immediate use, and you should use it daily.
Look for a disinfectant that can kill the cold, flu, and COVID-19, and have it in several forms. You might have your cleaner go around once a day to do a thorough cleaning of all of the surfaces with a rag and a spray form.
But you should also have disinfecting wipes available so that your employees can disinfect surfaces as necessary.
4. Trash Bags
Trash bags can either be the traditional large white or black plastic bags intended for large amounts of trash, or recycled grocery bags you happen to have on hand for smaller amounts of trash.
Either way, it’s a good idea to have both on hand to collect both your business’s day-to-day refuse that’s generated and to discard used cleaning supplies such as paper towels, empty bottles, disinfectant wipes, or worn-out gloves.
5. Protective Gloves
There are some cleaning agents out there that can be an irritant to the skin. There are also people who are allergic to certain chemicals coming into contact with their bodies.
An easy way to solve both of these issues is to keep protective gloves on hand when it comes time to clean.
This can also make tasks like taking out the trash or deep cleaning particularly gross areas easier to deal with, as you don’t have to worry about physically touching anything.
6. Buckets and Containers
Carrying multiple items can be cumbersome, so it’s a good idea to have some sort of container at the ready to move all the supplies you need for a cleaning job.
It’s also wise to have a bucket on hand, either to act as the container to carry supplies or to carry water around for mopping.
If you’re able to get multiple containers, you can also use these for storage and organization. Various types of cleaners can be sorted into various containers, allowing you to easily find and use what you need when you need it.
It also allows you to know how much of what you have, that way when you get low on various supplies, you’ll be able to replace them before you completely run out.
Having the right tools and supplies for cleaning your business can make cleaning less time-intensive and easier. It will also help you maintain a safer and more hygienic workplace.
If you’re looking for more ways to cut down on the time that it takes to clean your place of business, make a list of all of the areas that get dirty, and go through the cleaning section at your local store or online to come up with a list of supplies that will be right for your business place.
