Indira Gandhi

Indira Gandhi was one of the most famous women personalities of India. She was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India.

Indira Gandhi served as the Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. She was the only child of Jawaharlal Nehru and his wife Kamala Nehru.

Indira Gandhi was a very controversial figure. She was accused of using authoritarian methods to rule India.

She imposed a state of emergency from 1975 to 1977, during which civil liberties were curtailed and political opponents were jailed or exiled.

Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla was an Indian-American astronaut and the first woman of Indian origin in space. She first flew on the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997 as a mission specialist and primary robotic arm operator.



Chawla was one of seven crew members who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster when the shuttle broke up during its return to Earth on February 1, 2003.

Mother Teresa

One of the most famous women personalities of India is Mother Teresa. Born in 1910 in what is now Macedonia, she moved to India in 1929 and spent the rest of her life working among the poorest of the poor in Calcutta.

She founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious order devoted to helping the poor, and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2016.

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen is a former Miss Universe and one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood. She has also been a role model for young women in India, proving that anything is possible with hard work and determination.

Sen was born in Hyderabad to a Bengali mother and a Hindu father. Her parents divorced when she was four, and she was raised by her mother.

She began modeling at a young age, and was crowned Miss India in 1994. The following year, she won the Miss Universe pageant, becoming the first Indian woman to do so.

After her victory, Sen returned to India to begin her acting career. She has starred in numerous hit films, such as Main Hoon Na and Dosti: Friends Forever.

In addition to her acting chops, Sen is also known for her philanthropic work. She has adopted three girls from India, and founded the I AM Foundation, which works to empower women and children.

Lata Mangeshkar

Arunima Sinha – The Mount Everest Girl

Arunima Sinha is the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. She is also the first Indian woman to do so.

Born in a small village in Uttar Pradesh, Arunima had always been an adventurous girl. When she was just sixteen, she enrolled in the Armed Forces Medical College to become a doctor.

However, her dream was short-lived as she was thrown out of a moving train by some robbers while she was travelling back home from college. This incident resulted in her losing one of her legs.

But Arunima did not let this tragedy defeat her. After months of hard work and rehabilitation, she took up mountaineering and started training to climb Mount Everest.

On May 21, 2013, she finally accomplished her goal, becoming the first female amputee to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Her story is an inspiration to all women who have faced adversity in their lives.

Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj is an Indian cricketer and the current captain of the Indian women’s cricket team in Test and One Day International (ODI) matches. She is considered one of the greatest batswomen to have ever played the game.

Raj was born on 3 December 1982 in Jamshedpur, Bihar (now in Jharkhand), to Dorai and Leela Raj. Her father was an officer in the Indian Air Force, and her family moved around a lot when she was growing up.

Mithali started playing cricket at the age of 10, inspired by her brother who played for the Air Force cricket team.

Pratibha Patil

Pratibha Patil is an Indian politician who served as the 12th President of India from 2007 to 2012. She was the first woman to hold the office.

Prior to her election as president, Patil was a member of the Indian National Congress and served as the Governor of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2007.

Born in Nadgaon village in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, Patil completed her schooling in Jalgaon and enrolled at the Government College for Women in Nasik for higher education.

She subsequently earned a degree in Political Science from Mumbai’s Ruparel College and a law degree from Government Law College, Mumbai. She started her career as a lawyer in Mumbai.



Patil entered politics in 1962, when she was elected as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on behalf of the United Congress Party.

In 1967, she was elected to the Lok Sabha, lower house of the Parliament of India, on behalf of the Congress party.

She became a minister in 1975, holding portfolios including education, social welfare, tourism, and culture.

In 1985, Patil was elected to the Rajya Sabha, upper house of Parliament. In 2004, she was appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan
