An interview with G.R. Rajapriya, Principal Designer, East Craft Designs
In this interview, G.R. Rajapriya, Principal Designer of East Craft Designs Pvt Ltd, shares her journey in the dynamic world of design.
With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, she has crafted stunning spaces that blend functionality and aesthetics seamlessly. Discover her inspirations, challenges, and vision for the future of interior design.
Ms. Rajapriya, what inspired you to start Eastcraft Designs, and how did your journey in the world of customized artwork begin?
G.R Rajapriya: Marrying an artist introduced me to an entirely new realm—the fascinating world of art. My engineering degree proved invaluable in this journey, as imagination is a cornerstone of both engineering and artistic pursuits.
Our venture into customized artwork began with DMRC, where we were entrusted with the task of transforming metro stations into vibrant, colorful, and meaningful spaces that commuters could connect with.
We rose to the challenge with proficiency, and our creations continue to enhance the ambiance and value of the metro stations to this day.
What is the core philosophy behind Eastcraft Designs, and how does it reflect in the work you create?
G.R Rajapriya: Our motto, “WE TAKE GREAT PAINS TO SEE YOU WONT HAVE ANY”, represents our constant commitment to perfection.
We carefully supervise every phase of the project, from the first day to the project completion, we meticulously oversee every stage: initial inspections, concept creation, designing, production, execution and installation.
Collaborating closely with our clients, we value their input and seamlessly integrate their suggestions throughout the process.
Could you walk us through your creative process when taking on a new project?
G.R Rajapriya: It is important to understand the client, their field of expertise, the goals of the company, and the message they want to express via art. Thus, before starting the creative process, careful reading, research, and understanding of their requirements is vital.
This entails conceiving concepts, turning them into artwork, and making sure the building’s architecture complements it. We take great care to make sure the artwork enhances the building’s beauty, worth, and function without overpowering its architecture.
Eastcraft Designs is known for its craftsmanship. Could you tell us more about the materials and techniques you use in your creations?
G.R Rajapriya: Embracing boundless imagination, engineers, architects, and artists often combine two or even three elements to create one-of-a-kind artworks.
However, since our primary focus is on public art, we place a high value on the use of materials that are long-lasting, maintenance-free, and resilient to weathering.
Where do you see Eastcraft Designs in the next 5 to 10 years? Are there any exciting developments or projects you’re looking forward to?
G.R Rajapriya: We intend to increase our impact internationally after establishing a strong presence throughout India. Our goal is for our business to become widely recognized and admired across the world for its outstanding artwork.
We have already worked on projects in Greece, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, and are currently creating large-scale murals for Texas.
What advice would you give to aspiring designers who want to specialize in custom artwork or start their own design studio?
G.R Rajapriya: Never stop learning, reading and day dreaming. Embrace patience, persistence, and passion. Success is found both in crafting custom artwork and in designing your creative studio.
G.R. Rajapriya’s passion and expertise reflect her commitment to excellence in design. Her insights inspire budding designers and underscore the transformative power of creativity in shaping spaces that resonate with beauty and purpose.
