This is the interview of Gautam Chaturvedi, an entrepreneur and director of Pinetree Pictures.
Who is Gautam Chaturvedi
Gautam Chaturvedi is a successful Indian entrepreneur who eventually carved my way as a media professional and an entrepreneur.
Tell us a little about yourself ( i.e your Education, Experience, Family Background)
My family belongs to the northern part of India, in my growing years we moved around a lot, as a result of which I did my schooling in Lucknow, Jhansi, Merrut & Dehradun.
Later in 1989, I shifted to Mumbai to pursue further studies and completed my bachelor’s in commerce from R A Podar College.
After completing my graduation, I did a course in acting and started my acting career in 1994 and eventually carved my way as a media professional and an entrepreneur.
With 13 years of Acting experience, in 2007 I shifted my focus to Events and Filmmaking.
On a personal level, I believe in giving a hundred percent to every project we undertake under my banner Pinetree Pictures.
How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
Working for 13 years in front of the camera and learning the finer nuances of film making motivated me to start on my own venture and explore this vastly creative field. Events was a natural offshoot for our creative capabilities, and it did bring success to us.
What service(s) or product(s) do you offer?
At Pinetree Pictures we offer Event management and Film production for corporate and commercial clients. We are a one-stop media solution group with creative heads giving the best results.
What is unique about your business?
The USP of our business is the end to end communication solutions that we provide. We believe a client does not only look forward to us to manage their events, but they also look at us to give them creative concepts, audio-visuals, and a team that can manage their event.
Taking care of all the nitty-gritty yet ensuring the communication is at the core is our prime focus.
What made you choose this type of business?
The excitement and challenge in this field were a powerful magnet that attracted me. Every project is new, it brings new challenges and new solutions, and for a creative person that is always exciting.
What was your mission at the outset?
The mission was to create an enterprise that caters to the customer needs under one roof. An enterprise that is self-reliant, self-motivated, creative, disciplined, and respects every job assigned to them.
How many employees in your organization?
We have a team of very talented 15 people, who have expertise in their own fields.
What’s your company’s goals?
Our goal is to exhibit our vision and expertise making Pinetree Pictures Synonym to Event management in the country and globally.
How do you build a successful customer base?
A successful customer base for me is built on mutual trust, timely delivery, and a flexible attitude.
Servicing the existing client to the best of our capabilities has helped us in building the longevity of relationships and delivering fruitful results.
What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
Well, success and failure and two sides of the same coin.
There have been some instances of slip-ups from our end, but for us, even the smallest slip up is a serious matter that is dealt with utmost care.
Usually, branding at the events keeps changing till the last minute, at times in the last-minute hurry of printing, and finalizing the content leads to minuscule errors.
This might seem minor, but one alphabet here and there can change the entire communication.
I remember we were managing an event for a client where our creative team while finalizing the files for print misspelled the clients’ name. post the prints were our we immediately realized our mistake and in a matter of hours reprinted all the branding.
It taught us a valuable lesson to always check and recheck till the time you are not 100 percent convinced or sure.
Who has been your greatest inspiration?
I strongly believe in persistence and hard work. There are many leading examples of people obsessed by these qualities. People like Amitabh Bachchan, Ratan Tata, Mahatma Gandhi, Kapil Dev have left an indelible mark in their respective areas and have made the world sit up and look at them as Global Icons.
I am very inspired by people who have beaten all odds and pursued their dreams.
What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?
Like we say, we learn through our mistakes and as humans, we tend to commit mistakes as we grow. Personally, I keep repenting for losing the time that I could have spent with my loved ones while I was busy with building my business.
It is only when you lose the opportunity to create more wonderful memories do you realize how treasurable they were.
My biggest mistakes in my life have been lack of patience and maybe over expectation, which has been a life lesson and I keep trying to rectify them.
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Not just for the newcomers, but I would advise that everyone should have patience, stay focused, keep working hard, because positive energy always brings positive results.
Does your company help the community or society?
We are in a business that involves a lot of people at various stages and that is how we end up generating employment now and then.
For the past many years, we have thrived in doing at least 3 events annually to raise funds for some genuine and deserving charities.
Personally, I have huge respect for the armed forces and as an extension of our gratitude, every year we do 2-3 pro bono shows under the banner of Kashish, especially in the border areas to motivate and bring a smile to the faces of our brave soldiers.
