Google CEO announces $25 mn impact fund, support for one million Rural Women Entrepreneurs in India on International Women’s Day

During its virtual event ‘Women Will’, Global technology giant Google on Monday, announced multiple initiatives for female entrepreneurs in India as a part of its event Women Will and pledges to support one Million rural women entrepreneurs in India as well as a $500,000 grant along with NASSCOM..

The impact fund will provide up to $2 million to selected charitable organisations in India to enhance female and girls’ economic empowerment and create pathways to prosperity of Indian women entrepreneurs.

US-based Global technology giant Google’s chief executive officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai addressed Google for India’s ‘Women Will’ event on Internationan Women’s Day and announced that Google will provide $25 million in overall funding and Impact challenge grantees to bring economic equality for women and girls.

Sundar Pichai also announced that Google will support 1 million female entrepreneurs in rural India.

Sundar Pichai also announced the conclusion of its Women Will programme Internet Saathi for Women, along with Tata Trusts.

“When female have equal access to opportunity, we all benefit from their expertise, creativity, and perspectives, and this is true all over the world.

Building on the Internet Saathi program success, we’re making a new commitment to support 1 million rural women entrepreneurs in India to become successful women entrepreneurs through mentorship, business tutorials, entrepreneurship and tools” said Pichai in a statement.

Meanwhile, the NASSCOM grant would support 100,000 female workers in agriculture with financial and digital literacy training across Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Google has invested in the likes of Reliance Jio, run by Mukesh Ambani, Indian entrepreneur and Asia’s richest man.
