Vergo Founder Harsh Wadhwani on Flipping the Model of Affordable, Durable Ergonomics

Harsh Wadhwani, Founder of Vergo

An Exclusive Interview with Harsh Wadhwani, Founder of Vergo, a fast-emerging Indian ergonomic furniture brand

Vergo Founder Harsh Wadhwani discusses how his brand is tackling the dual challenges of back pain and hybrid work in India. Frustrated by market extremes, Vergo now offers scientifically-designed, durable, and affordable ergonomic seating, transforming office luxury into essential home infrastructure.

What inspired you to leave your role at Green Soul Ergonomics and launch Vergo in 2023?

Harsh Wadhwani: My duration in Green Soul Ergonomics was of great importance. It was an opportunity for me to learn more about ergonomics than just design—i.e. the way materials behave over years, the complexity of supply chains, and most importantly, consumer demands.

However, the Indian ergonomic chair market seemed to be marked by two extremes—very expensive on one side and very cheap on the other.

My back pain was a constant issue, and I noticed that the furniture people were sitting on was not changing according to the needs of modern working habits, hybrid living, and prolonged use of screens.

Launching Vergo in 2023 was my response to that unmet need. The inspiration was simple—to create thoughtfully engineered chairs that truly solve sitting problems, blend science with affordability, and deliver durability professionals can rely on for years.

How has your industry experience shaped Vergo’s approach to affordable, high-quality seating?

Harsh Wadhwani: My industry experience gave me a clear view of what truly defines a chair’s lifespan and comfort.

I learned that brands often cut corners in areas customers can’t easily spot—foam density that flattens too soon, weak recline mechanisms, unstable bases, low-grade gas lifts, or short warranty promises that shift risk to buyers.

That insight shaped Vergo’s philosophy. We chose to flip the model: reduce spend on superficial marketing and channel resources into engineering, certified components, and durable materials.

For us, affordability means optimising costs without compromising structural integrity or ergonomic science. Our approach is simple: build chairs that last, support posture, and earn trust through quality and transparent warranties.

Why do you believe ergonomic seating is essential for India’s new hybrid work culture?

Harsh Wadhwani: The hybrid and remote work models have been rapidly accepted by India’s workforce, and this has changed the whole scenario of how and where we sit. Most Indian houses, unlike traditional offices, were not equipped with a desk for 6-10 hours of daily use.

It is likely that the dining room chair, sofa, or an inexpensive seat would endure a couple of days but they would all be compromising your posture and eventually the result would be pain in the back, neck strain, tiredness, and even chronic spinal problems.

It is not only discomfort; it is a health risk that gradually heightens and affects focus and output. I don’t consider ergonomic seating to be a luxury, but rather preventive healthcare.

A chair that maintains the natural alignment of the spine while relieving the pressure points and adjusting to the user’s movements results in workers who are more productive, less tired, and ultimately, healthier.

In an environment where work and life are distinct but not separated, a good chair is just as important as having good infrastructure

How do Vergo chairs like Ease and Aura tackle common issues like back pain and reduced productivity?

Harsh Wadhwani: One of the main causes of back pain and lower productivity is the lack of proper support, which results in heat buildup and limited movement during prolonged periods of sitting. At Vergo, the Ease and Aura chairs are designed to address these issues right from the core.

The two chairs are built to keep the spine in its natural position and come with lumbar support, thereby decreasing the amount of pressure exerted on the spine.

The use of breathable, high-tensile mesh helps in increasing the airflow, hence, preventing discomfort that may be caused by sweating and heat, while at the same time offering the same level of support throughout the time of use.

With the help of the multi-lock recline mechanism, users are able to make tiny movements, which, in turn, relax the muscles and let them change their position safely without losing ergonomic support.

All these factors combined lead to less fatigue, better blood circulation, and improved concentration.

As a result, the chair will not just relieve pain, but it will also keep the user energised and focused, thus enabling the user to work in-depth, have fewer distractions, and be much more productive than before all day long.

What scientific principles guide your chair designs, and how do they differ from generic office furniture?

Harsh Wadhwani: Our chair designs rest upon the foundation of human biomechanics, the science that deals with the movements, alignment, and load-bearing of the body in sitting posture.

Our attention is directed to three key aspects: spinal alignment, pressure distribution, and dynamic support for natural movement. The Vergo chairs are developed to make possible a neutral sitting position, where the human spine maintains its natural S-curve, thereby lessening the muscular strain and avoiding long-term fatigue.

Instead of the commonplace office furniture that assembles the user according to a one-size-fits-all standard, our products allow comfortable and purposeful adjustment, so the user can have lumbar depth, recline locks, seat height precision, and breathable tensioned surfaces.

Also, we map the pressure points for better weight dispersion, thus reducing the lower back, hip, and leg stress while at the same time improving blood flow.

The difference lies in the purpose: the generic chairs are driven by their look and price, while Vergo is driven by science-based comfort, durability, and personalised ergonomic support that develops with the user all day long.

What unique features, such as the 30-day trial or 5-year warranty, set Vergo apart in the market?

Harsh Wadhwani: What makes Vergo different is our highest level of Customer-Centricity. Our 30-day risk-free trial enables the customer to use the chair in his/her own work environment—home or office—thus providing him/her with an opportunity to know if the chair is comfortable, gives the right support to the posture, and fits before buying it.

Only a few Indian brands provide this service at such a scale, but we do so because we are sure of our technology. That assurance covers the 5-year warranty, which is based on certified gas lifts, strong reclining systems, high-density foam, and sturdy frames that are intended for years of daily use.

The policy measures are complemented with efficient post-sale support, prompt solutions, and ergonomic help, which are offered to the customers when they need them. All these factors combined would depict a customer-first approach, transparency, and long-term trust as main characteristics.

It is not just about selling chairs; rather, we build up trust through giving access to the warranty and support systems that make the seating quality totally stress-free and easily accessible.

How does Vergo balance premium comfort with affordability?

Harsh Wadhwani: To balance premium comfort and affordability, one has to set priorities first. Vergo focuses on the essential factors that truly determine the comfort and lifespan of the product for their investment: high-density foam, breathable mesh, precise gas lifts, strong recline mechanisms, and a sturdy frame.

These are areas where many brands compromise, but they are a must for us. In order to keep the price at an accessible level, we do everything around those main priorities. We have very effective manufacturing processes, we buy the materials smartly, and we design for longevity to cut down the long-term replacement costs for users.

Our selling directly to the customer gets rid of the extra retail price increases, and this allows us to offer better-made chairs at fair prices. In our opinion, affordability means not letting the quality go down; rather, it is about getting rid of the inefficiencies while the product gets stronger.

The outcome is that the seating at Vergo is like a premium seat every day, positively affecting your posture scientifically, and still being affordable for India’s increasing hybrid professional community.

With over 12,000 units sold and a ₹100 Cr goal, what milestones has Vergo hit recently?

Harsh Wadhwani: The sale of 12,000 units marked the first proof for us that the Indian market was prepared for science-led, durable, and comfortable seating at an affordable price.

Over the past year, we have not only added Ease and Aura chairs to our product portfolio but have also improved the certifications of the components used in our chairs and gone further with foam density, tilt and mesh durability—landmarks that directly uplift the life span as well as the comfort of the chairs.

On the operational front, we developed efficient manufacturing on a larger scale, made the quality control points stricter and increased our direct-to-consumer distribution so that we could lower retail costs and keep giving the customers the benefit of the savings.

In addition, we introduced a 30-day free trial and extended our 5-year warranty, which is now supported by quicker post-sale resolutions and proactive assistance reflecting our faith in product engineering.

We are well on our ₹100 Cr ambition with every step that we take—this demonstrates the case that affordability and premium comfort can grow together if the core product is made right.

How is Vergo adapting to India’s remote work boom and expanding its product line?

Harsh Wadhwani: India’s remote work boom changed the rules—workspaces moved into bedrooms and living rooms, and comfort now needs to fit smaller, evolving environments. Vergo is transforming the whole ergonomic ecosystem, not just with chairs.

We will be offering compact, home-friendly seating that provides maximum support without taking up an office-scale space. New products will have adaptive lumbar systems, breathable materials, and more adjustability that are suited for continuous sitting in warm areas. Besides the products, we are also increasing user education.

Not only will posture guidance and habit-forming resources be provided, but more importantly, we will help professionals to completely understand sitting better and what to buy through structured ergonomic content.

Our strategy is the mixing of engineering, ecosystem thinking, and education—opening up the way for durable, affordable solutions that meet the real Indian homes and help the users to form healthy sitting habits for a long time.

With ambitious goals and over 12,000 units sold, Vergo is redefining ergonomic seating through a customer-first approach, offering transparent 5-year warranties and a 30-day trial. The brand is establishing quality, affordable posture support as necessary preventive healthcare.
