Shaping Personal Expression: A Conversation with Harsheen Jammu, Founder of Ombre

Harsheen Jammu, founder of Ombre

An Exclusive Interview with Harsheen Jammu, founder of Ombre, wedding photography and filmmaking boutique

Harsheen Jammu, founder of Ombre, has carved a niche in wedding photography and filmmaking by blending artistry with storytelling. Ombre captures not just moments, but emotions, weaving timeless narratives that reflect individuality.

In this interview, Harsheen shares her journey, inspirations, and vision behind transforming weddings into unforgettable cinematic experiences.

What inspired you to start Ombre, and how did you envision it standing apart in the luxury wedding photography space?

Harsheen Jammu: The inspiration behind Ombre stemmed from my background as a painter. At a time when wedding photography leaned heavily into candid, unstructured moments, I envisioned something more layered, imagery that conveyed emotion and beauty with intention.

The name “Ombre,” derived from the concept of shades within a single hue, reflects this nuanced approach, storytelling that is both bold and sensitive, personal and timeless.

How would you describe Ombre’s signature style, and what creative philosophies guide your work?

Harsheen Jammu: Known for its maximalist aesthetic and contemporary composition, my work marries evocative narratives with original colour palettes.

What sets the brand apart is its commitment to customisation, steering away from templated styles to create a truly immersive, tailor-made experience for each client. The result is a visual journey that is as unique as the love story it tells.

As I have always been fascinated by painting, photography came naturally to me where brushtrokes of colors were intercepted with light play.

In photography, the canvas is dark and you paint through light. My background in painting helps me delve deeper into colors, abstract vision and mixed media experimentation as my art is no longer medium-dependent.

Photography and cinematography are both art and business. How do you balance creativity with the expectations of ultra-luxury clientele?

Harsheen Jammu: We cater exclusively to ultra-high-net-worth individuals, clients who value privacy, artistic excellence, and elevated service. These are discerning patrons who seek exclusivity, sophistication, and heirloom-quality visuals that mirror their legacy and lifestyle.

Trusted by top-tier wedding planners and renowned for its discreet yet deeply collaborative approach, we deliver not just photos and films but curated experiences.

Weddings are deeply emotional and personal, how do you capture authenticity while keeping the artistry intact?

Harsheen Jammu: We follow a strict non-intrusive policy once the event starts. For us to achieve our vision, we are involved in the wedding right from the planning process so that with the collaborative efforts of the planners, decorators and couple, we are able to design the basis of a moment, for example, suggesting Vermala location or timings or lighting set up for Sangeet.

We brainstorm ideas for couple shoots and draw inspiration for their outfits, accessories and the decor moodboards for which we might also request a certain set up in the property itself. As a team, we thrive in chaos and our team size ensures that everything is balanced properly.

By letting the moment unfold as it is while positioning myself in anticipation of the moment. Being truly present in the moment prepares you to compose it before it has even happened.

At times, I also suggest locations for certain situations like getting-ready set up according to my best judgement of light. As a photographer, I compose how to frame the moment and not the moment which aids in emotional honesty.

The luxury wedding industry is highly competitive. What challenges have you faced in establishing Ombre as a leader in this space?

Harsheen Jammu: I’d say that carving a place in the luxury wedding space has been as much about protecting our artistic integrity as it has been about building a brand.

One of the biggest challenges has been resisting the pull of trends. In an industry where “perfection” is often defined by social media aesthetics, it’s tempting to conform to what’s popular.

Another challenge has been educating clients about the value of creative direction in photography. Many couples initially see photographers as vendors, not as collaborators shaping the visual narrative of their wedding.

We’ve had to demonstrate, through pre-production meetings with planners, décor teams, and choreographers, that our role is closer to that of a creative director, ensuring every visual element supports the emotional story we’re telling.

Then there’s the logistical complexity of luxury and destination weddings. These events often span multiple days, locations, and cultures which affects our health, sleep schedule and food.

Ensuring that my team gets their food in the venue and explaining it to the clients that our presence is needed at the venue at all times can be challenging at times.

In short, the challenge has been to hold space for authenticity in a space obsessed with curation while also appealing to our clients as creative directors instead of just service providers.

Ombre is known for creating timeless keepsakes. How do you make each wedding story unique while staying true to the brand’s identity?

Harsheen Jammu: The luxury wedding industry is evolving, and photographers at the forefront are noticing distinct shifts in both aesthetic and client expectations.

Today’s couples, especially those planning high-budget or destination weddings, are seeking more than just documentation. They want visual storytelling that reflects their values, heritage, and emotional depth.

The aesthetics offered by us are not mass production but are agile and built on the client’s taste as we take only a certain number of weddings in a year to be able to give a personalized experience to each couple.

In essence, our identity is no longer just about beauty but it’s about meaning, memory, and emotional resonance with a process that ensures that the couple gets to contribute in the creative direction of theirs as much as possible.

What do you want couples to feel when they look back at their wedding films and photographs decades from now?

Harsheen Jammu: I want my work to act like time capsules that transcend the couple into their wedding. My aim is to create wedding films and photographs that are etched to the couple’s mind and every time they see it, they discover something new, oscillating between curiosity and comfort.

What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs looking to carve their place in creative industries like yours?

Harsheen Jammu: While trends come and go, authenticity reigns. Stay authentic to your work, your morals and yourself – the rest shall follow. There is no single straight path to building a brand in the creative industry but you need to believe in yourself and your work even at the most difficult times.

Learn sales and marketing while focussing on photography because at the end great art needs good exposure to become a successful brand.

Your work might be the best but it won’t help you earn until it has landed the correct audience. Word of mouth is the most effective way of marketing.

Through passion and innovation, Harsheen Jammu has redefined wedding photography and filmmaking with Ombre. Her vision goes beyond documenting events—it’s about preserving emotions in their purest form.

This conversation offers a glimpse into her creative philosophy and relentless pursuit of excellence, inspiring couples and creative entrepreneurs alike with the art of storytelling.
