Alumnus of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park Shourya Trivedi looks back at how his early interest evolved into a career path

By Arijit Roy: Cyber security might sound like a niche, futuristic field to many, but for Shourya Trivedi, it’s a natural progression of his passion for computers. A 2024 batch student from Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, Shourya is currently studying B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering with a focus on Cyber Security at Manipal University.

In this interview, he walks us through the inspiration behind his choice, the academic challenges he’s embracing, and how school laid the groundwork for his tech aspirations. Read edited excerpts:

Shourya, why did you choose such a niche field like Cyber Security?

I’ve always been fascinated by how things work behind the screen. Over the years, I kept reading and watching stuff related to cyber security—it sparked a real interest. And with the digital world expanding rapidly, I knew this was a field worth exploring deeply.

When did your passion for computer science actually begin?

It actually began before school, but it was in Classes 11 and 12 that it got serious. Choosing PCM with Computer Science wasn’t a casual decision—I picked it specifically to build on my tech interest.

So what was the turning point in your decision to pursue engineering?

I wanted to become a software developer initially. In Class 10, during subject selection, I remember being sure that PCM was my stream only because of Computer Science. That clarity made all the difference.

What skills from school have helped you now at university?

Definitely the strong foundation in C programming and logic-building. The teachers made sure we were thorough, and that’s paying off. Even now in college, when we learn advanced C or C++, I find myself revisiting things we already did in school.

What are some of the academic skills you’ve gained in college so far?

Besides deepening my knowledge in C and learning C++, I’ve started understanding pointers and more advanced coding structures. We also started exploring new programming paradigms that go beyond what we learnt in school.

What do you plan to pursue after your B.Tech?

I’m still exploring my options, but one thing is sure—I want to stay rooted in computer science. Whether it’s software development or something even deeper in cyber security, this is the field I want to grow in.

What advice would you give to school students dreaming of a similar path?

Start early. Take up Computer Science, attend tech events, and engage in coding activities at school. It helps build clarity and direction. And always stay curious—that’s what tech needs the most.
