May 2, 2023: India’s coal production has recorded a significant increase of 8.67% year-on-year in April 2023, reaching a record high of 73.02 million tonnes.

This marks a significant boost in the country’s coal production capacity, which has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors over the past few years.

The Ministry of Coal announced that the increase in coal production is due to the efforts of the government to ramp up coal production and improve coal mining efficiency.

The government has been implementing various policies to increase coal production in the country, including opening up more coal blocks for commercial mining and introducing reforms to streamline the coal mining process.

The increase in coal production is expected to help the country meet its growing energy demands, particularly in the power sector.

India is one of the largest consumers of coal in the world, and coal-fired power plants account for a significant portion of the country’s electricity generation.

The increase in coal production is also expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy, as it will help reduce India’s dependence on coal imports and support the growth of the domestic coal mining industry.

The Minister of Coal, Prahlad Joshi, said, “The increase in coal production is a significant achievement for the country, and we are committed to further improving coal mining efficiency and increasing coal production in the coming years.

This will not only help meet our energy demands but also create employment opportunities and support the growth of other sectors of the economy.”

Despite the increase in coal production, the government is also taking steps to promote the use of renewable energy sources and reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

The government has set a target to generate 450 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, which includes 280 gigawatts of solar power and 140 gigawatts of wind power.
