Why is International Yoga day celebrated on 21 June?
On 11 December 2014, India’s permanent Representative Ashok Mukherji introduced the draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly.
The draft is supported by many leaders globally. A total of 177 nation supported this resolution. Which is the highest number that ever supported by a UNGA Resolution of such nature.
The date was proposing is 21 June. In this PM Modi said the date was the longest day of the year in the mass northern hemisphere (shortest in the southern hemisphere), having special significance in many parts of the world. From the perspective of yoga, the summer solstice is known as Guru Purnima.
The UN understands the yoga benefits, and several leaders of the spiritual movement in India voiced their support for their initiative.

As we said earlier, that Yoga solves all our health and mental issues. But if we talk about who is the father of yoga? By Hindu mythology “Lord Shiva” is the father of Yoga as he was known as Adi Shiva, i.e., the first Yogi.
According to the scriptures and its teaching, in the yogi culture, Lord Shiva is considered the Adi yogi.
As in Hindu writing, Lord Shiva went to the Himalayas when he was happy and dance. The posture he uses for a dance move the whole body and gives strength.
Later, in ancient times, it is said that rishis and Munis have invented these yoga tricks to improve the lifestyle of humankind. These are the oldest asanas of Hindu culture.
Father of Modern Yoga
Later Patanjali has given a new turn to Yoga and is known as the father of modern Yoga. In modern days, people forget their old asanas and follows western tricks to reduce weight like gym, aerobics etc.
In 2006 Patanjali Ayurveda, (popularly known as Patanjali), has started teaching; how to do Yoga and how it benefits our different body parts.
