Why is International Yoga day celebrated on 21 June?
On 11 December 2014, India’s permanent Representative Ashok Mukherji introduced the draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly.
The draft is supported by many leaders globally. A total of 177 nation supported this resolution. Which is the highest number that ever supported by a UNGA Resolution of such nature.
The date was proposing is 21 June. In this PM Modi said the date was the longest day of the year in the mass northern hemisphere (shortest in the southern hemisphere), having special significance in many parts of the world. From the perspective of yoga, the summer solstice is known as Guru Purnima.
The UN understands the yoga benefits, and several leaders of the spiritual movement in India voiced their support for their initiative.

According to the scriptures and its teaching, in the yogi culture, Lord Shiva is considered the Adi yogi.
As in Hindu writing, Lord Shiva went to the Himalayas when he was happy and dance. The posture he uses for a dance move the whole body and gives strength.

Father of Modern Yoga
Later Patanjali has given a new turn to Yoga and is known as the father of modern Yoga. In modern days, people forget their old asanas and follows western tricks to reduce weight like gym, aerobics etc.
