Can you tell us about your career as a makeup artist and how you got started?

Kajol R Paswwan: Well, my journey with makeup started at the age of 18 when I was auditioning for modeling in a TVC and saw how these young girls were so well groomed and they had this entourage of makeup team making them look glamorous.

That’s when my calling for becoming an MUA started because I understood how much I loved dolling people up and enhancing their beauty.

I switched my career that moment to join a makeup course and started leveling up in this field but constantly learning online and offline from some of the best artists out there.

After completing my formal training in makeup artistry, I eagerly embraced every opportunity to practice and hone my skills.

It was during my initial years working in various fields of makeup that I discovered my true calling – luxury bridal makeup.

The joy of being part of a bride’s most special day, where I can create a stunning transformation and enhance her natural beauty, is what motivated me to specialise in this niche.

What drew you to a profession as a makeup artist, and how did you hone your skills?

Ans. My desperation was my inspiration : I have seen my family go through major struggles of life, not just financially but emotionally as well. I could not go to a good college nor was I allowed to get out of the house post 6pm.

These are the few things which were a big trigger for me at that time. The amount of hardships I have seen alongside my family has kept me inspired somehow and I knew I had to get out of it no matter what and give my family a better life.

To hone my skills, I took up advanced courses, attended workshops, and collaborated with other talented artists.

Additionally, working with diverse clients and constantly experimenting with various makeup styles further refined my expertise.

Since then there has been no looking back on my makeup learnings – it has been a constant growth and upskill process which led me here.

Could you tell me about some notable moments or milestones in your work as a celebrity makeup artist?

Kajol R Paswwan: The day I started my own academy, it was the biggest milestone in my entire career. I always wanted to create a platform that gives people the roadmap for creating a successful career in the industry.

My academy is a one stop destination, for everyone who wants to make a mark in the industry and I provide my students with everything that I did not have while I was working to become a makeup artist.

It was a pivotal milestone until now and I’m grateful to have this platform where we are consistently working towards transforming makeup artists to entrepreneurs and imbibe the business mindset alongside makeup skills in them.

What have been some of the most difficult problems you’ve experienced in your profession, and how have you overcome them?

Kajol R Paswwan: There have been multiple challenges along the way but this one’s from the initial phase of my career – I’m a girl with big dreams, always was and I came from an absolutely humble background where I have seen my parents go through a lot of struggle.

I knew I had to build skills and do something big for myself to provide the comfort my family was striving for and thats what inspired me to build this career.

I did not have a good mentor to help me understand what is the correct path to start your career and how to get going about it.

With no one besides me, I had to figure out the entire journey in a very lengthy process which could have been easier if I would have had makeup leaders who would have given me internship opportunities, made me understand what would be the appropriate way to start a business and scale it step by step.

The only way I have overcome it was to show utmost belief and strength in myself and never losing it no matter the failures. I kept going and showed up every single day. That’s what helps!

How do you stay current on cosmetics trends and techniques? Do you have any go-to resources or sources of inspiration?

Kajol R Paswwan: The makeup industry is growing and evolving everyday. I watch a lot of trending makeup videos, read blogs from a lot of my favourite makeup artists.

Constantly upgrade my skills by attending international makeup artists workshops. Since I’m associated with a lot of wedding portals I always keep myself updated about trending looks that brides need.

Additionally, I draw inspiration from art, fashion, and cultural trends to infuse fresh and innovative elements into my work.

I personally sit with the entire team and figure out what looks to work on for the upcoming season and create those looks on models and muses to curate my content on it and perfect the trends for bridal season as well.

What advise would you give to budding makeup artists who want to work in the field, particularly in the realm of special effects?

Kajol R Paswwan: For aspiring makeup artists, I would emphasise the importance of continuous learning and perseverance.

Understand the market and it’s need and show up everyday. Remember, every experience, even failures, contribute to your growth as an artist.

What are your long-term objectives and aspirations in terms of makeup artistry?

Kajol R Paswwan: My long-term objectives and aspirations in terms of makeup artistry go beyond just creating stunning looks. I am deeply committed to women empowerment and making a difference in the lives of aspiring makeup artists.

Through my academy, I am passionate about providing opportunities for women of all ages, empowering them to be self-reliant and independent.

My vision is to curate a transformative curriculum that not only polishes their makeup skills but also equips them with essential business knowledge.

I want my students to emerge as confident entrepreneurs, ready to build their own brands and embrace financial independence.
