Kapil Sharma is one of the most popular stand-up comedians in India, known for hosting The Kapil Sharma Show. He shot to fame with his hit TV show, Comedy Nights with Kapil.
Kapil started doing stand-up comedy in 2001 and made his debut on television with The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2005.
He has also hosted other reality shows such as Comedy Circus and The Kapil Sharma Show. Kapil’s brand of humour is observational and he often pokes fun at everyday life in India. He is loved by fans for his innocent and down-to-earth nature.

During the years 2016-17, Forbs India ranked him at 11th & 18 in their list of 100-celebrities. He was awarded the CNN-IBN Indian of the year of the year in entertainment category in 2013.

In 2015, he was invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee to acknowledge his contribution towards cleanliness.
Early and personal life:
Kapil was born on 2nd April 1981 in Amritsar, Punjab, India as Kapil Punj. He is known as Kappu/tony in family.
His father name is Jeetendra Kumar Punj and his mother name is Janak Rani. His father was a head constable in Punjab Police and his mother is a home maker.
In 1997, his father was diagnosed with cancer, he died due to it in 2004 at AIIMS Delhi. He has a brother named Ashok Kumar, he is a Police constable & a sister named Pooja Pawan Devagan.
Education:
Sharma studied at Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School Amritsar. He completed his arts graduation from Hindu college in Amritsar. He is promoted in the list of prominent alumni of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar.
He knows & speaks Punjabi & Hindi language. He came from a lower middle class family with no entertainment background. During his graduation from fine arts college he used to direct plays for pocket money.
He was a scholarship holder & a national level winner in theatre. During the initial stage of his career as comedian, he earned minimum wages.
He also works at PCO cloth mills etc. to earn money. He did not have money to join acting school, but due to his sheer talent many institutes offered him free acting course.
Her mother is her inspiration. At the age of early 20 he started his acting career as theatre artist.
On 12th December 2018, Kapil married Ginni Chatrath in Jalandhar. Ginni is a comedia entrepreneur. The couple have a daughter & a son.
Career:
In 2007, Kapil rose to fame after winning the reality comedy television show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.
Initially he was rejected in the audition round, but then he received a call to return & won the price. He won a cash price of INR ₹10 lakh in that.
From that price money he did his sister’s wedding. Previously, he worked for MH One channel in Punjabi show ‘Hasde Hasaande Ravo’.
Actually, he shifted to Mumbai to become a singer. He participated in Comedy Circus on Sony Channel.
He won six seasons of that show. He also hosted another comedy show Chhote Miyan & a dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa.
In 2008, he was a contestant in the show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad. Under his own banner K9 Productions, he launched his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil on Colors in 2013.

He was felicitated with the Indian of the Year award in the entertainment category by veteran actor Amol Palekar at the CNN-IBN Indian of the awards 2013.
He was appointed as the Brand Ambassador by the Delhi Election commission during the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
In the 60th Filmfare Awards in 2015, he shared the stage as co-host with Karan Johar. In 2014, he was the presenter for the fourth season of Celebrity League.
On the opening episode of the 8th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, he appeared as a guest. He was a celebrity guest on The Anupam Kher Show & in 2017, he appeared as a guest in Koffee With Karan.
He also made guest appearance in several shows like Farah Ki Dawaat, Aap Ki Adalat, dance India Dance, Indian Idol Junior, Aaj Ki Raat hai Zindgi Bigg Boss season 11 etc.
In 2015, Kapil made his Bollywood debut in Kis Kisko Pyar Karoon. He played a male lead role in that movie. It was a romantic-comedy film directed by Abbas Mustan.
He acted against four actresses named Elli Avram, Manjari Phadnis, Simran Kaur Mundi and Sai Lokur. It was released on 25th September 2015.

It had mixed reviews from critics. The movie did record-breaking opening day business for a debut. On 24th January 2016, his show Comedy Nights with Kapil aired its last episode.
Then he began a new show named The Kapil sharma Show on Sony Television under his own production house K9 Productions. The show was debuted on 23rd April & it received a positive response from viewers.
He signed another two movies in December 2016. Currently he is working on it. Kapil also renewed his contract for The Kapil Sharma Show with Sony Entertainment Television. It began from 29th December 2018.
He acted in another movie named Firangi. It was released on 1st December 2017. It is a historical drama film set in the year 1920. The film was directed by Rajiev Dhingra.

On 25th March 2018, he started his another show named Family Time with Kapil Sharma. Unfortunately, it was ended on 1st April after only 3-episodes.
He produced a Pujabi movie Son of Manjeet Singh in 2018, it was released on 12th October 2018. New season of his show The Kapil Sharma Show was aired on 29th December 2018, it was produced by Salman Khan.
He was declared as a star in a kids comedy show, titled The Honey Bunny Show With Kapil Sharma on Sony Yay in 2020.
It was declared that a biopic on his life is under development in January 2022. The biopic will be directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba with the title Funkaar.
Activism:
As we all know he is known for his efforts in promoting animal rights. He & all his cast members of Comedy Nights with Kapil appeared in a PETA campaign to promote adoption of homeless dogs & cats.
He himself adopted a homeless retired police dog from Mumbai in July 2014. He also campaigned to save tortured elephants across the country.
He regularly promotes for cleanliness on his show, as he was nominated for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kapil Sharma lives in Versova, Mumbai along with his family. Kapil loves traveling, singing and enjoys life with his family and friends.
