An interview with Kartikye Gupta, an award-winning director, editor, entrepreneur, and founder of ScrollX.io, a tech platform transforming post-production for filmmakers worldwide
In this exclusive interview, Kartikye Gupta, an award-winning director and founder of ScrollX.io, shares his insights on revolutionizing post-production for filmmakers.
He discusses the challenges and innovations in the industry, highlighting how his platform is transforming the filmmaking process globally.
Can you share your journey into the world of filmmaking and what inspired you to become a director and editor?
Kartikye Gupta: My journey into the world of filmmaking has been unconventional, shaped more by instinct and curiosity than formal design.
I didn’t come from a traditional film school background instead, I immersed myself in the craft by observing, experimenting, and most importantly, editing.
My earliest fascination was with the edit table: the way rhythm, silence, and imagery could be sculpted to evoke powerful emotions.
Editing taught me the art of restraint and timing, and that often, what you don’t show is just as impactful as what you do. Directing came as a natural progression.
I wanted to be involved in the narrative from its inception—to guide the story’s tone, texture, and visual identity.
What drew me in was the universality of visual storytelling. No matter the language, geography, or medium, a well-told story can transcend boundaries and connect people deeply.
That idea continues to inspire me. Along the way, I’ve worked across formats short films, digital series, branded content, and experimental narratives.
Each project has helped me evolve, not just as a filmmaker, but as a listener and collaborator. I believe every story deserves an honest voice, and my goal has always been to craft that voice with clarity, emotion, and purpose.
Can you walk us through your creative process when directing a film? How do you balance your vision with collaboration?
Kartikye Gupta: Directing, for me, is about setting a tone—both creatively and atmospherically. My process begins with an intimate understanding of the script: what it’s saying, what it’s not saying, and what it could say visually.
I then build a visual grammar around that. But filmmaking is inherently collaborative, and I deeply value the synergy that comes from working with passionate individuals.
My job is to anchor the vision but leave enough room for spontaneity and fresh input. I believe the best films emerge when a director curates the ecosystem rather than controls it.
What motivated you to create ScrollX.io, and what gap in the market did you aim to fill with this platform?
Kartikye Gupta: ScrollX.io was born out of both frustration and ambition. I saw how fragmented the digital content ecosystem had become—brimming with talent but lacking access to opportunities and infrastructure. I wanted to build a platform that democratized storytelling, not just for filmmakers, but for any creator with a voice.
ScrollX.io is our attempt to reimagine how stories are developed, discovered, and distributed—bridging the gap between creators and a truly global audience, while leveraging technology to make the process seamless and scalable.
How do you think technology is changing the way stories are told in film?
Kartikye Gupta: Technology is dramatically reshaping the way stories are told in film not by replacing creativity, but by expanding its possibilities.
Tools like AI-assisted editing, real-time rendering engines (like Unreal Engine), and virtual production stages are revolutionizing both production and post-production processes.
Technologies such as AR, VR, and XR (extended reality) are creating immersive storytelling environments that blur the line between viewer and participant, offering entirely new narrative experiences.
Equally important is the rise of accessible, cloud-based platforms that allow creators across the globe to collaborate remotely, edit in real-time, and distribute their work widely.
This digital evolution is decentralizing storytelling power, enabling independent voices, regional perspectives, and previously marginalized communities to find their audience.
With platforms like ScrollX.io and others, creators can bypass traditional gatekeepers. Used thoughtfully, technology doesn’t dilute the art, it amplifies it. The future of storytelling lies in this intersection of innovation, inclusivity, and imagination.
Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives that you’re particularly excited about?
Kartikye Gupta: Absolutely. We’re in the early stages of developing a hybrid storytelling series that merges traditional narrative techniques with interactive technology—something that allows the audience to engage with the story in a deeply personal way.
Additionally, at ScrollX.io, we’re launching a creator fellowship program aimed at mentoring emerging filmmakers from underrepresented communities. Both these projects reflect my commitment to innovation and inclusion in storytelling.
What advice would you give to aspiring filmmakers looking to navigate the evolving landscape of the industry?
Kartikye Gupta: My advice to aspiring filmmakers is simple: stay curious, stay adaptable, and never stop learning.
The film industry is evolving rapidly with advancements in AI, virtual production, and digital distribution platforms like OTTs and short-form content apps.
What works today may be outdated tomorrow. While mastering the fundamentals of storytelling and technical craft is essential, it’s equally important to understand the audience you’re creating for and how they consume content across formats and devices.
Build a strong narrative voice, but be flexible in execution. Most importantly, don’t wait for permission. With smartphones, affordable software, and global platforms, the power to tell impactful stories is truly in your hands. Use it boldly.
Kartikye Gupta’s vision for ScrollX.io exemplifies the fusion of creativity and technology, paving the way for a new era in post-production.
His commitment to empowering filmmakers ensures that storytelling continues to evolve, making a lasting impact on the industry.
