Can you provide an overview of Walplast’s journey from its inception to becoming a leading manufacturer of building construction materials in India?
Kaushal Mehta: Walplast was founded in 1980 by Mr. Ashok Mehta, current Chairman of our company. As a first-generation entrepreneur and a respected figure in the Indian building and construction industry, he started the company as a trading business.
However, recognizing the potential for growth and innovation, we transitioned into manufacturing two decades ago.
Since its inception, Walplast has been dedicated to redefining the construction materials industry in India. We have always prioritized innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and our expertise, we have continuously strived for excellence. This commitment has allowed us to develop a diverse range of construction materials.
Today, Walplast proudly stands as a leading manufacturer in the industry. We have played a significant role in the growth and development of the Indian construction landscape. From our humble beginnings with a single manufacturing unit at Vapi, Gujarat we have expanded to operate 25 plants.
Additionally, we are the third-largest producer of wall putty in India. Furthermore, our products are exported to 14 countries, showcasing our global reach and influence.
The construction materials industry has seen significant advancements in recent years. How has Walplast adapted to changing market dynamics and embraced innovation to stay competitive?

From state-of-the-art plaster solutions to advanced adhesives, we continuously embrace innovation to stay ahead.
By investing in research and development and collaborating with industry experts, we have been able to introduce solutions that cater to the evolving demands of the industry.
Under our brand “HomeSure,” we offer a wide range of innovative building materials and solutions to meet the needs of today’s construction industry. Our product range includes various gypsum plasters designed for different applications, including superior quality gypsum boards.
These gypsum products offer numerous benefits such as fire resistance, durability, lightweight structure, and easy application.
Additionally, we manufacture a range of lime-based ready-mix plasters that provide specific advantages like fire resistance, self-curing ability, and water resistance. Our water-resistant and crack-free spray plasters allow for efficient machine spray application, ensuring project efficiency.
Moreover, we offer coloured wall putty, premium putty (water-resistant), tile adhesives for various applications, epoxy grout in eight colour variants, and Level Well products. These solutions empower contractors and homeowners to complete their projects efficiently and cost-effectively.
Recently, we have introduced HomeSure MasterTouch Distempers and Primers, which are zero solvent, low VOC (Volatile Oil Content) and heavy metal-free products. These offerings serve as excellent alternatives for those seeking safe and sustainable solutions.
Our ultimate goal is to provide high-quality, innovative products and solutions that enhance construction processes, reduce costs, and boost productivity for our customers. Sustainability is a crucial consideration in modern construction. How does Walplast approach eco-friendly practices in its manufacturing processes and products, and what steps have been taken to minimize the company’s environmental footprint?
Kaushal Mehta: Sustainability plays a crucial role in modern construction. At Walplast, we prioritize eco-friendly practices in both our manufacturing processes and products. We have taken several steps to minimize our environmental footprint.
Our manufacturing facilities are designed with eco-friendly practices in mind, and we continuously seek ways to reduce waste and energy consumption. We also give preference to materials that have minimal impact on the environment. This ensures that our products contribute positively to sustainable construction practices.
For instance, our MasterTouch Paints are low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and do not contain heavy metals. Our HomeSure waterproof putty utilizes 5% recycled raw materials made from natural dolomite stones, which are a renewable resource.
Additionally, the putty is 10% recyclable at both the post-consumer and post-industrial stages. Furthermore, our HomeSure self-curing plaster not only conserves water but also incorporates 5% recyclable waste and waste byproducts such as fly ash.
Walplast is committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting equitable growth. We regularly update our procedures and policies to achieve these objectives. Our materials are designed to create durable structures and contribute to the development of healthy communities and nations.
Our Sustainability program focuses on generating sustainable development while considering environmental, economic, and social factors. We harness renewable energy sources, such as solar power, to minimize our environmental impact and meet our energy requirements.
Additionally, we implement sustainable business practices, including Thin Layer technology, manufacturing sand, fly ash usage, eco sand, slag cement, and stone byproducts.
Could you elaborate on the range of construction materials that Walplast produces? How do these products contribute to enhancing the quality, efficiency, and durability of building projects?
Kaushal Mehta: Our product portfolio spans a wide range, including plasters, putties, adhesives, gypsum products, wall textures, construction chemicals, AAC Blocks and Paints. These materials are designed not only to enhance the aesthetics of buildings but also to ensure their longevity and structural integrity.
Our solutions contribute to efficient construction processes, reducing time and costs. Moreover, their durability and resistance to wear and tear make them ideal for a variety of building projects, ultimately raising the quality standards across the industry.

Our company actively pursues plans to expand its product range and market presence in India and other countries. The demand for building materials in India is rising, and the company aims to capitalize on this trend by offering a full range of gypsum products, tile adhesives and paints relevant to the building industry.
The company prioritizes expansion in India’s eastern and southern states, which have high economic growth rates, favourable government policies, and a skilled labour force. The company plans to establish manufacturing units in these regions to meet local demand and minimize distribution costs.
Additionally, the company has already begun exporting to various countries, including Bahrain, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Yemen, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Somalia, Rwanda, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Nigeria, Mauritius, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Fiji, Jamaica, and Jordan.
