An Exclusive Interview with Koneru Lakshman Havish, Vice-president of KL Deemed to be University
In this enlightening interview, we speak with Koneru Lakshman Havish, Vice-President of KL Deemed to be University.
He shares his vision for the institution, emphasizing innovation in education and the importance of holistic student development. Discover his insights on the evolving academic landscape and how KL University is preparing students for future challenges.
Can you share your journey to becoming the Vice-President of KL Deemed to be University? What motivated you to pursue a career in education?
Koneru Lakshman Havish: My journey from technology and entrepreneurship to education was fueled by a passion for innovation and a desire to shape future leaders. I firmly believe that while innovation drives progress, it is education that builds the foundation for it.
At KL Deemed to be University, I found the ideal platform to turn this vision into reality. Especially through our rapidly evolving Hyderabad campuses—KLH Aziz Nagar and KLH Bachupally—we are fostering a new era of transformative learning.
With a focus on the KLH Global Business School, we aim to cultivate not just academic excellence, but real-world impact, global thinking, and leadership from day one.
How is KL Deemed to be University adapting to the rapid changes in the education sector, particularly with the integration of technology?
Koneru Lakshman Havish: We don’t just adapt to technology — we lead with it. KL Deemed to be University has embedded digital fluency at the core of our curriculum.
From AI-enabled learning platforms and virtual labs to blockchain-based certification and hybrid classrooms, we are future-ready and future-focused.
Our “KL Smart Campus” initiative is revolutionizing the way students learn and faculty teach. Think predictive analytics for performance, real-time feedback loops, and AI-powered tutoring systems. Education is no longer confined to textbooks — it’s immersive, interactive, and intelligent.
What initiatives are in place to support the holistic development of students at your university?
Koneru Lakshman Havish: We believe in educating holistically, not just as a student. That’s why we’ve created a 360° development model called “Empower360” — a framework that blends academics with emotional intelligence, leadership training, entrepreneurship, sports, and the arts.
Our students participate in over 80+ clubs and societies, from robotics to dance, innovation labs to social impact cells. We also offer mental wellness programs, mentorship schemes, and soft skills bootcamps. The goal? To produce not just job-seekers — but change-makers.
What do you see as the biggest challenges facing higher education today, and how is your institution addressing them?
Koneru Lakshman Havish: One major challenge is relevance — ensuring what we teach aligns with what the world needs. The shelf-life of skills is shrinking, and institutions can no longer afford to be static.
At KL Deemed to be University, we’ve made agility our superpower. We constantly revise syllabi in collaboration with industry, embed real-world problem-solving into coursework, and promote lifelong learning.
Another big challenge is accessibility, and we’re tackling that with inclusive scholarships, remote learning models, and multilingual support. Education must evolve — and we’re evolving faster.
How does KL Deemed to be University collaborate with industries to enhance the employability of its graduates?
Koneru Lakshman Havish: The line between academia and industry is blurring — and that’s a good thing. We work closely with professionals and experts to ensure students understand real-world expectations and develop the mindset needed to contribute meaningfully.
This goes beyond technical skills. It’s about communication, adaptability, ethics, and teamwork. When students are exposed to real challenges and real feedback, they grow faster and become far better prepared for whatever path they choose.
How does the university incorporate a global perspective into its programs, and what opportunities are available for students to gain international exposure?
Koneru Lakshman Havish: In today’s world, no one operates in isolation. Whether you’re an engineer, a designer, or a scientist — you’re part of a global conversation. We encourage our students to think beyond borders, to learn from diverse cultures, and to be open to new perspectives.
Whether through collaborations, learning materials, or global engagement, we constantly push students to view problems and opportunities through an international lens. It makes them more aware, more adaptable, and ultimately more impactful.
What advice would you give to students who are about to graduate and enter the job market?
Koneru Lakshman Havish: Three words: Be adaptable. Be intentional. Be authentic.
The job market rewards those who are quick learners, not just top scorers. Cultivate a growth mindset, be curious about everything, and don’t just chase jobs — chase impact.
And remember, the most powerful brand you’ll ever build is yourself. Stay humble, keep learning, and above all, lead with values. The degree opens the door — your mindset decides how far you go.
Koneru Lakshman Havish’s commitment to excellence in education is evident as he outlines the university’s strategic initiatives.
His passion for fostering a dynamic learning environment inspires both students and faculty alike. As KL University continues to thrive under his leadership, it remains dedicated to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
