Krishnan Menon, Merchants Director, Pluxee India

An Exclusive Interview with Krishnan Menon, Merchants Director at Pluxee India, a leading employee benefits and digital solutions company

Krishnan Menon, Merchants Director at Pluxee India, shares valuable insights on driving merchant partnerships and innovation. Leading a top employee benefits and digital solutions company, he reveals strategies shaping the future of seamless payments and enhanced business growth.

Having managed merchant operations across 1,800+ towns and serving millions of users, what key leadership lessons have shaped your journey at Pluxee India?

Krishnan Menon: Leading Pluxee’s merchant ecosystem across 1,800+ towns has reinforced one core principle: scale only works when it is matched with trust, consistency, and simplicity.

Working with more than 150,000 partners has shown that every merchant, regardless of size or region, values seamless processes, clarity, and predictable outcomes.

A major leadership lesson has been the importance of listening closely to the ground. India’s diversity demands agile decision-making, quick adaptation, and solutions built around real merchant behaviour.

Our teams spend significant time understanding regional needs, which has helped us shape more intuitive and reliable digital experiences.

Another learning has been the impact of building empowered teams. Merchant operations move at high velocity, and enabling teams to take ownership has been central to our ability to scale responsibly while supporting millions of users on our platform.

What challenges did you face while expanding Pluxee’s digital payment network nationwide, and how did you overcome them?

Krishnan Menon: Expanding a digital payment network at national scale brings natural complexities. One ongoing challenge has been the varied levels of digital readiness across different regions. In several markets, merchant onboarding and digital literacy required sustained intervention.

We addressed this by simplifying our onboarding flows, redesigning our merchant interfaces, and offering targeted support to help partners adopt digital payments confidently. As adoption increased, ensuring reliability and security at scale also became a priority.

Our investments in platform upgrades, smarter fraud monitoring, and faster settlements have strengthened trust and enhanced merchant experience.

Another challenge was ensuring seamless interoperability across categories and payment modes. Through continuous enhancements and the right partnerships, we have built a network that is more resilient, future-ready, and accessible to merchants of all sizes.

With 150,000+ merchant partners in India, how does Pluxee ensure continued value and engagement within its vast network?

Krishnan Menon: Our approach is anchored in making every interaction intuitive and valuable. We support merchants across food, retail, wellness, and digital categories with frictionless transactions, stable footfall, and stronger visibility among millions of Pluxee users.

We continuously refine merchant touchpoints through faster settlements, stronger support channels, and an improved onboarding experience. Insights-driven engagement programmes and category-specific initiatives further help us understand partner needs and deliver sustained value.

The goal is simple: every merchant, whether a small neighbourhood outlet or a large national chain, should experience Pluxee as a trusted growth partner.

What trends in digital payments and loyalty have caught your attention, and how is Pluxee responding to them?

Krishnan Menon: Digital payments and loyalty are converging in new ways. A clear trend is the shift toward mobile-first, seamless experiences where consumers expect personalisation, simplicity, and instant value. Loyalty is also moving beyond transactional rewards to more meaningful, lifestyle-driven benefits.

Industry insights also point to strong momentum in the digital gifting ecosystem. The gift card sector is projected to reach approximately USD 18.03 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 14.6% between 2025 and 2029.

This reflects how digital-first reward solutions are becoming a mainstream preference for consumers and businesses alike.

Recent workplace insights also show that 55% of employees now place mental health and overall well-being among their top three most valued benefits, which reflects a broader shift toward personalised, choice-led engagement.

This change in expectations is also shaping how people interact with digital payment and reward experiences.

We are responding by strengthening our digital platform, enhancing user journeys, and expanding lifestyle categories that align with evolving expectations. Through smarter insights and continued technology investment, we aim to deliver experiences that are intuitive, relevant, and rewarding.

How do you see Pluxee contributing to greater financial inclusion and positive community impact in India?

Krishnan Menon: Financial inclusion sits at the heart of our operating model. Our acceptance network spans metros as well as Tier 2, Tier 3, and emerging markets, enabling thousands of small and mid-sized businesses to participate in the digital economy.

By supporting digital payments across neighbourhood stores, education providers, wellness centres, and service outlets, we help widen access and create new economic opportunities.

At the consumer level, our multi-benefit platform gives millions of users access to essential categories like food, wellness, learning, and lifestyle.

With well-being emerging as a top priority among today’s workforce, our solutions increasingly focus on helping individuals improve quality of life in meaningful ways.

As we continue expanding our ecosystem, our goal is to empower merchants, uplift local communities, and shape more secure, inclusive, and digitally enabled experiences across the country.

Krishnan Menon’s vision highlights Pluxee India’s commitment to empowering merchants with cutting-edge digital solutions.

His leadership continues to foster innovation, ensuring businesses thrive in a competitive market while delivering exceptional value through seamless employee benefits and payment experiences.
