Achyuta Samanta Life Story: Founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS)
Achyuta Samanta was born into a poor family on 20 January 1965 in Kalarabanka, Cuttack, Odisha. Samanta is the founder of the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT); which provides free healthcare, accommodation, food, and education from class 1 to post-graduation with vocational training.
Achyuta grows up in the midst of poverty in a village of Odisha in India with his widowed mother and seven siblings. His father’s name is Shri Anadi Charan Samanta and mother’s name is Smt. Nilima Rani Samanta. His father had died in a tragic train accident when Samanta was four. He gave his mother the solace by wiping her tears. The famous Indian writer, editor, film producer, and journalist, Iti Samanta is his youngest sister.
Achyuta Samanta landed himself in a teaching job in a local college after completion of his Master’s Degree in Chemistry. Besides the job, he did private tutoring. In 1992-93, he soon thought of and ventured to set up two educational institutions Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), an International Baccalaureate affiliated school, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and with only Rs. 5000/- in a rented building. He also started the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a medical college.
Achyuta Samanta also the founder and promoter of culture and the arts organization through Kadambini Media Pvt Ltd (KMPL). He is in the process of setting up a tribal museum, ‘Gandhi Gram’ in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi to showcase tribal culture, life, and art. Gandhi Gram is a centre for yoga and spiritualism.
Samanta has founded more than 25 spiritual centres and shrines. He has been the organizer of a Little Miss India competition, Nanhi Pari since 2000. Achyuta Samanta got the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) from Daffodil International University.
Achyuta obtained his degree of M.Sc in Chemistry from Utkal University. Samanta had a decade-long experience in teaching in colleges as a chemistry lab assistant, mostly at Maharshi College under Utkal University, in Bhubaneswar. He is also an ex-chancellor and secretary of KIIT University.
Samanta created new records in the field of social entrepreneurship and got a number of awards. As the youngest chancellor of any University in India, he appears in The Limca Book of Records. Achyuta Samanta was awarded as the Top 15 Social Entrepreneurs of the World.
