Meet The Lady Who Co-founded The Company That is Closing After Being Valued Rs. 3200 Crore

Meet Lizzie Chapman, a co-founder of ZestMoney

Lizzie Chapman, a co-founder of ZestMoney, has allegedly joined Jio Platforms, the digital division of Reliance Industries, which is managed by Mukesh Ambani. The announcement of the executive position was made just a few days after ZestMoney closed its doors due to unfulfilled efforts to find a buyer for the financially troubled company.

ZestMoney was started in 2015 by Lizzie Chapman, Priya Sharma, and Ashish Anantharaman. They left the firm in May 2023 after the breakdown of an agreement with PhonePe to acquire the business. At its peak in September 2021, the firm was valued at $435 million, or more than Rs 3200 crore.

According to a report from Hindu Business Line, Chapman has joined RIL subsidiary Jio Platforms and will oversee the Jio mega app project. The article said that while Chapman has already joined, her work “does not have much to do with Jio Financial Services for now,” citing a banker who is aware of the situation. Additionally, it was said that Chapman denied joining the business and labeled the story as hypothetical.

For more than ten years, Chapman has been employed in India. She has had positions at the DSB Bank and as the head of India for the former UK company Wonga. At DSB, she oversaw the “Digibank” initiative.
