An interview with Madhukant Das Prabhu, the Founder and CEO of Homey that aims at Revolutionizing Co-Living for Students

In this exclusive interview with Madhukant Das Prabhu, Founder and CEO of Homey, we explore how this innovative co-living venture is transforming urban housing for students and migrant workers.

From championing affordability and wellness to fostering community-driven growth, Homey stands out as a trailblazer in redefining modern co-living spaces.

With a strong focus on empowerment, sustainability, and personal development—rooted in timeless principles like those of the Bhagavad Gita—Homey is not just addressing housing challenges but also contributing to societal change and youth empowerment on a profound level.

How does Homey address the challenges of urban living for students and migrant workers?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: Homey was created to provide a holistic co-living experience. Our focus is on wellness, affordability, and community-driven housing that caters specifically to students and migrant workers.

We aim to offer more than just a place to stay—Homey is a thriving ecosystem where residents can grow both personally and professionally.

Homey recently won the “NGO of the Year Award for Women Empowerment.” What does this recognition mean for the venture?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: This award is a testament to our commitment to safety and empowerment, especially for young women.

Our integration of self-defense martial arts training into our co-living spaces has been pivotal in creating a culture of resilience and security. Recognition like this fuels our passion for making a meaningful difference.

What principles drive Homey’s mission?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: At the core of Homey are the values of Community, Authenticity, Respect, Empowerment, and Sustainability (CARES).

These principles guide everything we do, from designing inclusive spaces to fostering an environment that encourages growth. Our mission is to provide not just affordable housing but a community that nurtures potential.

Wellness seems to be a significant part of Homey’s approach. Can you elaborate?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: Absolutely. Wellness is integral to our model. We offer programs and community events that enhance mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Our spaces are designed to support academic and career growth while promoting a balanced lifestyle. Residents enjoy a hybrid living experience that addresses personal, social, and professional needs.

Affordability is a challenge in urban housing. How does Homey tackle this?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: Affordability is at the heart of what we do. Our transparent pricing ensures students and workers have access to quality housing.

For underprivileged residents, our partnership with ISKCON Dwarka provides heavily subsidized housing. We also offer value-driven educational opportunities, ensuring our residents get more than just a place to live.

Homey’s growth has been impressive. What are your expansion plans?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: We’ve launched 500 beds in Delhi’s North Campus and Dwarka areas within just two months. By year-end, we aim to expand to 2,000 beds in Delhi and Bangalore. By March 2026, we plan to offer 5,000 beds in cities like Pune, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad.

Beyond growth, how does Homey contribute to societal change?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: Initiatives like self-defense training for women demonstrate our commitment to addressing societal challenges.

These programs empower our residents and foster a culture of safety and resilience. At Homey, we believe in creating not just a better living environment but a better society.

Your long association with Iskcon Dwarka comes handy while imparting life lessons to today’s youth. Your thoughts?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: Life offers countless lessons for today’s youth, but while there are limited ways to stay focused, distractions are endless.

The Bhagavad Gita serves as a guiding light, helping balance the mind and body and equipping students and young individuals with practical tools to navigate real-life challenges.

At Homey, we bridge this gap by distilling the timeless wisdom of the Gita into weekly lessons for our young residents. This unique approach sets us apart from other co-living spaces, making Homey more than just a place to stay—it’s a space for growth and self-discovery.

In one sentence, how would you describe Homey’s mission?

Madhukant Das Prabhu: Homey is redefining co-living by creating inclusive, affordable, and wellness-focused communities that empower individuals to thrive.
