IPL 2023: Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana to join CSK on April 10
CSK in IPL: April 9, 2023: Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings team will be joined by two star young bowlers from Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana, on April 10.
The Sri Lankan two star young bowlers will be available for CSK’s next match – against Rajasthan Royals at home on April 12.
CSK in IPL: In this 16th season of the Indian Premier League, Dhoni’s team is once again in rhythm. Dhoni’s team has played three of their matches, and has shocked everyone by winning two of them.
However, there has been a defeat in the only match, which was against Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans team in the opening match.
Although now the IPL season is becoming more and more exciting, one after another foreign players are joining their own teams. In this connection, two young bowlers will now join the Chennai Super Kings team on April 10.
Chennai Super Kings’ Sri Lankan duo Mahesh Thikshana and Matisha Pathira will join the franchise on April 10 – ahead of their next clash at home against Rajasthan Royals on April 12, franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed.
Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana were part of a six-match white-ball series against hosts New Zealand, which ended on 8 April with a 2–1 win in the three-match T20I rubber.
Matheesha Pathirana, a right-arm medium fast bowler, did not feature in any of the fixtures, while Maheesh Theekshana played all three 20-over internationals, returning with figures of 1/22, 0/18 and 1/22.
The spinner was particularly impressive in the nerve-sapping first T20I in Auckland, where he kept New Zealand to just eight runs in Sri Lanka’s Super Over win.
Maheesh Theekshana debuted for CSK last year and immediately proved his worth as a reliable powerplay bowler, picking up 12 wickets in the season at an economy of 7.46, including four.
Matheesha Pathirana, meanwhile, made his debut for the team last year and took two wickets in as many games.
Additionally, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka – rejected as Kane Williamson’s replacement at Gujarat Titans – and RCB’s Wanindu Hasranga will also join their squad on the same day (April 10).
Shanaka, who was not sold in the December auction, is a ballistic all-rounder, having scored 3724 runs in 183 T20s at a strike rate of 141.92.
With the ball, his medium pace has earned him 59 scalps at an economy of 8.81. He has not played IPL before.
As for Hasaranga, the leg-spinning all-rounder who will make his IPL debut in 2021, he will strengthen RCB’s bowling line-up. Hasaranga was the second-leading wicket-taker in last year’s tournament, picking up 26 strikes in 16 games with an impressive economy of 7.54, including four fours and five fives each.
Meanwhile, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the only other Sri Lankan player in the IPL this season, is representing the Punjab Kings.
Notably, Chennai Super Kings have played their three matches in IPL 2023, in which they had to face defeat against Gujarat Titans in the first match, however, Dhoni’s team later found a rhythm and won the last two matches.
Currently, the team of Chennai Super Kings remains at the third position in the points table with three wins and one loss.
