Malaysian Petronas Seeks 10,000 Acres Of Land In Tamil Nadu To Set Up Proposed Green Hydrogen Plant
January 2023: Petronas, a Malaysia-based energy company, is in the process of identifying land for its proposed green hydrogen and ammonia plants in Tamil Nadu, India.
The company, which signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government in July 2022, is said to be seeking around 10,000 acres of land to develop the plant, which will also require a solar plant to operate.

Tamil Nadu is expecting a similar investment from Japanese giant Mitsubishi.
The land for approval of Petronas and Mitsubishi was identified by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. It is understood to have featured in discussions between Stalin and a delegation of state industries led by his minister Thennarasu, who attended the World Economic Forum’s Davos summit.
South Tamil Nadu, which enjoys sunshine most of the year, is considered to be a suitable location for such plants; Green hydrogen plants also require solar plants to support and run them.
The proposed green hydrogen and ammonia plants, if constructed, will bring immense benefits to the people of Tamil Nadu and the entire country by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting a clean, green environment.
