Tell us about yourself
Manisha Koushik: I am Manisha Koushik, I have done speciality in Astrology, practice Tarot card reading, Numerology, Vastu Feng Shui and Name Therapy as well.
Talking about my education, I have completed my schooling from Carmel Convent school, Chandigarh, have done my Under Graduation in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Kurukshetra University and have done my Masters in MBA from The University of Sheffield, UK.
I have been practicing all of these for somewhat around 14 years now. Astrology has been in my blood – my great grandfather and grandfather have been renowned astrologers of their time and my father, Dr Prem Kumar Sharma is already an internationally renowned astrologer.
He has been writing the daily astrology column in Hindustan Times Newspaper for more than two decades now.
Please tell us a little about your entrepreneurial journey
Manisha Koushik: About my journey, like I mentioned all these things have been forwarded to me through my family, so it was easier to pick up.
For example, a doctor’s child grows up in a medical environment understanding or hearing about diseases, medication, situation etc which would give the child a basic knowledge about the field pre-hand.
My father gifted me a Tarot card deck at the age of 16 years. I did not know what to do at first, so I could say my formal learning started from 16 years of age and informal learning started much before that.
So when he gave me the deck I asked him what do I do with it, he just said pull out a card and tell me if you see something, at first everything appeared to be blank – all I could see were colours and images which appeared to be vibrant and attractive but confusing at the same time since there are so many things in each card.
My Father asked me about a story that he had told me and asked me if I remember it, I said yes, then he said now could you figure out the same thing in this card and I said yes I could, I could see a lot of details now.
My Father said it’s all about the lessons I have taught you don’t go on the story just focus on the energy exchange, and once you practice this often you will eventually get into it.
And that is how I slowly started learning to read cards, doing Numerology, Astrology and finally Vastu and Feng Shui.
What is your biggest USP
Manisha Koushik: The Biggest USP I think is to understand the scientific reason behind the prediction. Being an engineer, I am able to connect things logically and interpret what problems are people going through.
So a technical bent of mind is definitely beneficial to advise somebody and the most important thing is your own morale has to be higher in life.
Self-motivation is very important because the people who are coming to us are almost drained in terms of energy.
On regular basis, I am meeting people who are going through something or the other in their life. So, my job is not just to give them a prediction of the future but also to fill them up with positive energy, motivation to sail through the tough times that they are going through.
For me it is important to have alignment within and give them a practical solution but first I have to bring up their motivation levels.
What made you choose this type of Business?
Manisha Koushik: For me it’s not just a business, it’s a profession and more of a responsibility because the people who follow me say they rely on me, so this is a very big responsibility, that when someone trusts you so much you are bound to feel more responsible for them.
What was your mission and vision at the outset?
Manisha Koushik: Mission and vision for me as a professional would always be that I want to touch every life with the best of my abilities.
Every person that I come in contact with, whether on social media, personally, professionally or on any other communication platform – I just want to help people and make their life better in any which way – and if I am able to do that – it will be the best version of me on this Earth.
What was the inspiration behind turning an entrepreneur?
Manisha Koushik: My major inspiration is my father. If I were to name one hardworking person that I have seen in my entire life – it’ll be my father who works day and night.
He’s been very passionate about it. I remember the first advice he gave me when I came into this field; he said you are no less than a doctor, people will call you at night and if you can help them then you must help them.
If you had a piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Manisha Koushik: My piece of advice to someone who is starting out would be just do it passionately. You must know we are in a field where the inspiration has to come from the science itself.
Don’t look at somebody how he dresses up, how he speaks – you are going to be yourself, this is your journey, you’re going to have your milestones and goals, so just look at your life and everything will fall in place.
To be successful in occult sciences – the planet Jupiter has to be strong. And this is what we got to learn – Jupiter means Guru and a Guru never compares himself with anyone.
I always share my personal favourite quote with people that “If you compare yourself with someone then you insult your ownself.”
What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?
Manisha Koushik: I have made many but don’t there’s hardly anything that I call a blunder to remember. I always feel like when we buy a pencil box – why does it come with a sharpener and an eraser?
Because whenever you start to write something, you will would have to sharpen the pencil, so you need to keep on polishing yourself, keep upgrading yourself from time to time and you will definitely make mistakes for which they have given you eraser too but when we look closely there are ten pencils one eraser and one sharpener by this we need to be wise enough to use things, use the opportunities to its optimum level.
Key things to consider before starting a business?
Manisha Koushik: Key things are that don’t jump into it, this profession is built up by patience, as whenever we start to learn about these things we want to jump onto predictions that’s why I think patience is very much required, you need to make your own notes, need to practice and never be too vocal about it because even if you are practicing that statement can have a lot of impact on the person for whom you are making predictions for.
The foremost thing is to keep on upgrading yourself, the day when you say you learnt everything, is the time when your growth stops and somewhere your blessing also stops. So always be a learner, keep your good spirits, be open to criticism, and be open to feedback.
