What inspired you and your co-founders to launch Vurve Salon in such a competitive beauty landscape a decade ago?

Manoj Samuel: Our inspiration was simple: we saw a significant gap in the market. While there were many salons, few offered a true, globally-aligned premium experience combined with deep expertise.

We wanted to build a homegrown South Indian brand that set international standards for artistry, hygiene, and personalized service, ensuring every client felt truly seen and cared for.

Vurve has chosen not to pursue rapid franchising. What makes your cluster-based expansion strategy more effective in the Indian market?

Manoj Samuel: For a premium-luxury brand, control over quality is non-negotiable. Rapid franchising often compromises service delivery and brand ethos.

Our cluster-based expansion—focusing on depth within markets like Chennai, Bangalore, and Kochi—allows us to deploy our expert teams efficiently and maintain centralized operations with localised teams and consistent competence development through the Vurve Academy.

This ensures that whether you visit any of our salons, the luxury experience is uniform, meets expectations and the finest of artistry.

What does luxury mean to Indian clients today, and how do you deliver that at Vurve?

Manoj Samuel: Luxury today is less about lavish décor and more about time, expertise, and personalized results. Indian clients demand solutions, not just services. We deliver this by:

  • Curating Global Brands: Partnering only with leaders like Kérastase, Aveda, Olaplex, and Skeyndor.
  • Personalization: Every ritual, from hair to skin, starts with a detailed consultation tailored to the client’s needs.
  • Artistry: Our expert stylists are trained to deliver results that are current, customized, and durable.

Vurve invests heavily in staff training and retention. How do you ensure stylists embody your brand ethos?

Manoj Samuel: The Vurve Academy is the heart of our ethos. We don’t just hire; we cultivate careers.

By investing in continuous, world-class training, thanks to our Chief Education Officer – Vipul Chudasama, we ensure our stylists are always ahead of the curve in technique and artistry.

This commitment fosters loyalty, which in turn means our team embodies our core value: treating every client experience as an art form.

How has the premium salon market changed in South India since you started?

Manoj Samuel: The market has become far more sophisticated and demanding. A decade ago, clients sought international names; now, they seek international standards. The major change is the shift toward solution-based services.

Clients are well-read, know about ingredients (like hyaluronic acid), and expect visible results from advanced treatments, not just indulgence. This is why our focus on expertise and high-tech partners like Skeyndor has been crucial.

How do you stay ahead of trends and remain relevant to millennials and Gen Z clients?

Manoj Samuel: We treat trend prediction as a core business function. We monitor global trends, but we focus on adapting them for the Indian context. Our stylists are digitally active and trained to communicate with young clients who bring their own research.

Crucially, we focus on versatility: offering plant based colour options, vegan products and targeted skin treatments that cater to the Gen Z demand for quick, high-impact transformations.

What’s next for Vurve—any plans for new experiences, markets, or digital engagement strategies?

Manoj Samuel: We are focused on three areas: Deepening Expertise, Expanding Digital Presence, and ofcourse embracing AI into the wellness space.

We plan to further refine our luxury offerings, especially in advanced skin aesthetics and targeted hair rituals. We will continue our focused expansion into Chennai, Bangalore and debut move to Hyderabad.

Digitally, we are exploring new ways to personalize the consultation process before the client even steps into our salon, ensuring the Vurve experience is seamless from screen to chair.
