Meesho means ‘my shop’, is founded by IIT Delhi graduates Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal in December 2015. It is an Indian-origin social commerce platform where small businesses and individuals enable business from home with zero investment. In 2016, Meesho was selected for Y combination and it was one of the three Indian companies to select.
Meesho is headquartered in Bengaluru, India. Any individuals and small businesses start their online stores via social channels such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. In 2019, Meesho received investment from Facebook and it became India’s first startup to receive investment from the American social media and technology company, Facebook. Meesho first targeted housewives, nearly one-third of sellers are students.
Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal created a hyperlocal fashion discovery and commerce app, FashNear in 2015. By the end of 2015, they pivoted to Meesho, which enabled sell through social channels and physical stores to take their inventory online.
