A Class II student from Apeejay School, Nerul, pens a powerful environmental message

Young authors, even as early as primary school, often surprise us with their imagination, honesty, and creative spirit.

Their stories reflect a unique view of the world: Curious, thoughtful, and full of heart. Meet one such student – Aditya Sharma of Class II at Apeejay School, Nerul, who has recently penned down Mother Earth’s Whisper. In a candid interview, he talks about the inspiration behind his book, among other things.

Tell us about yourself.

I love badminton, reading books, karate, dancing, and swimming. I’m a Brown Belt in karate, and I enjoy everything I do. So, when I sat down to write this book, I was extremely excited to see its completion.

Who or what inspired you to write the novel?

My English teacher and my mother inspired me to write this book. My mother and elder brother helped me with spelling and grammar.

What is the novel about?

It took me two months to write it. The novel is about how human beings are disturbing and destroying Mother Nature and hurting her other children like animals, birds, plants, trees, air, and water.

In the story, Mother Earth comes to me in a dream and shares the complaints she receives from all of them. It was my maternal grandfather who helped me choose the title. He suggested it after reading my draft. I liked it because it fits the story perfectly.

What message do you want to give readers through your book?

I want to request everyone to protect Mother Nature, be kind to animals and birds, and keep our Earth green and clean.

What was the most fun part of writing the book?

There’s a part where a bird comes to me and calls me ‘Aditya bhaiya’. That made me happy because we’re all children of Mother Earth — we’re brothers and sisters. Also, the book has some pictures and illustrations. While some were from the free books platform, some I drew myself.

How did you feel when you held your printed book for the first time?

It was such a moment of honour and pride when I first held the printed copy in my hands. I felt delighted!

Do you plan to write more books?

Yes! I’ve already started working on a new one. It’s about kids and screen time — how they’re spending too much time on tablets, mobiles, and TV. I’m writing about that now.
