Mirabai Chanu: an Indian weightlifter
The lady who makes India proud and become the face of India. MIRABAI CHANU; her hard work tells the story of her success. Mirabai Chanu is a weightlifter. She won a medal at the Tokyo Olympics and become the face of India.
In 2016 Mirabai had taken a back step in RIO games. After that, she firmed about her modified practice and will grab her goal by wholehearted devotion.
Now in 2021, it’s Rio again. This time Mirabai don’t want to lose a chance. This time with her strength and concentration, she won a medal.
She makes a world record to lift 119 kg, in clean and jerk she collects a bronze for her in Asian Championship RIO.
Born in Nongpok Kakching, Imphal East, Manipur, India on 8 August 1994. Mirabai Chanu is a strengthen girl from childhood.
She works so hard and even can lift high weight than her brother. Their parents understand she is not a normal but a strong girl.
Mirabai Chanu got her first proud moment when she won a silver medal in the 48 kg weight category at the Glasglow edition of the Commonwealth Games. Glasglow edition was an international multi-sport event.
She won a Gold medal in the women 48kg category by lifting a competition record 194kg in the 2017 World Weightlifting championship. Which was held in Anaheim, CA, United States. She also won Bronze in clean and Jerk at 49 kg category in the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships.
The total weight of 199 kg was her best lifting ever, but she missed the bronze. Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 201kgs (87kgs Snatch and 114kgs Clean & Jerk) to finish 4th in the 2019 world Weightlifting Championships.
This created a new national record and personal best total also in the 49kg category. She broke her record again four months later when she lifted 203kgs (88kgs in Snatch and 115kg in Clean & Jerk,) in the 49kg category to win the gold medal at the 2020 Senior National Weightlifting Championships.
Mirabai gives a proud moment for India and Manipal too. She is a face of success that tells you that nothing can stop you when you are firmed.
Mirabai Chanu gets Awarded by Chief Minister of Manipal Mr N Biren Singh, who bestows her by Rs. 2 million.
She was awarded by Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2018, which is the highest civilian award.
Mirabai is also awarded by Padma Shri by the Government of India. Her lists of Awards is so long.
Mirabai Chanu’s Journey as a Weightlifter is not a bouquet. She has to go through hard work to reach this place.
After losing RIO in 2016, she involved herself more to improve her strength, especially in clean and jerk.
No Pain No Gain
The big misfortune is waiting for Mirabai in 2018 a serious back pain prompted Mirabai to left the Asian Games and World Championship. Mirabai can’t play sports till she get-out from her pain and bad health.
Ministry of Youth Affair and Sports Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) help her and send her to the US, where she gets good treatment for her back pain and a good coach for her practice.
There she is under the best coach and her training methods are changed. There she does rehabilitation exercises.
These exercises help with her shoulder and various movements. Her coming back with fitness. Life takes a turn and she won the Medal in 2021 with a bang.
Mirabai Charu has received a total funding of 51.51 lacks out of pocket allowance. Ministry has sanctioned 21.18 crore to the Indian Weightlifting Federation from 2019 to 2021 towards the Annual Competition and training Calendar.
