An exclusive interview with Mohammad Anas Shaikh, The Multifaceted Racing Maverick
In the high-octane world of motorsport, there are a few who transcend the boundaries of age and experience, proving that raw talent and unyielding determination can propel one to greatness. Mohammad Anas Shaikh, an 18-year-old sensation hailing from MIT WPU University in Pune, is one such multifaceted racing maverick. At the tender age of 16, he burst onto the racing scene, and today, he stands as a promising contender racing with
Team DTS Racing in the prestigious JK Tyre National Championship. As he prepares to set his sights on the iconic Silverstone in the UK, Anas is on the cusp of what could be the pinnacle of his racing journey, as he aspires to conquer the revered GB4 Championship and bring glory to his homeland.
Anas is not just a rising star; he’s the youngest Indian driver on the grid for the next year, making his journey in motorsport an extraordinary one.
Can you tell us about your journey into the world of racing and how you got started?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: I grew up with a strong interest in motorsports and have always wanted to be a part of the racing world. When I lived in Pune, (India). I began to pursue my racing interest through the sport of karting. In addition, I continued to fly back and forth to Chennai and Coimbatore because I was a racing driver for the LGB Formula 4 category team under the supervision of my team (DTS Racing India).
These experiences sparked my passion and curiosity for racing to the point where I was asked about joining the first Indian Formula 4 team (Indian Warriors Racing Limited), which is situated in the United Kingdom, as a racing driver.
I started racing because I love speed and the thrill of competition. I’ve been fascinated with cars, speed, and racing since I was old enough to appreciate and learn about them. Every time I got behind the wheel, I felt a different kind of optimism and adrenaline. The thrill of adrenaline and the challenge of pushing my boundaries on the track inspired me to seek a racing career.
You’re known as a “Multifaceted Racing Maverick.” What different types of racing have you been involved in, and what drives your passion for these various disciplines?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: As previously stated, I’ve participated in a few races in India. I began my career in karting and was one of the few racers to represent my city in the 7-hour endurance championship at the Dubai Kartdrome in Dubai. While racing as an LGB Formula 4 racing driver between Chennai and Coimbatore for the (DTS racing India team), I competed in two competitions known as the JK Tyre National Formula 4 championship.
I also competed in the Hyderabad street circuit race. I am currently living in the United Kingdom since I am a racing driver for the first ever Indian Formula 4 team (Indian Warriors Racing Limited) where my testings are ongoing.
The adrenaline rush, love of speed, fascination with engineering and science, admiration for experienced drivers, competitive spirit, and even a deep appreciation for the strategy and tactics involved in racing drive my passion for numerous racing disciplines. My enthusiasm for various sorts of racing is most likely fueled by a mix of these things.
Racing can be a physically demanding sport. How do you maintain your physical fitness and mental sharpness to excel in such a competitive field?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: Maintaining physical and mental fitness while racing requires intensive training routines that include cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and reflex-enhancing activities. To improve focus and decision-making abilities, mental sharpness is improved through simulation training, strategic analysis, and consistent practice.
A balanced diet, adequate rest, and mental relaxation techniques are also essential for excelling in the competitive world of racing. I also practice Yoga and meditation on a regular basis to help me focus and find mental peace and calm.
What has been the most memorable moment or achievement in your racing career so far?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: In my most recent race, held in Coimbatore,(India) under the team DTS Racing India, I qualified for P14 and the race was a tough one, and having said that, I had an incident in the race that caused the nose cone of my car to break off and cause damage, although it was one of the best races of my life as I finished the race at P4, being so close to getting a podium really was one of the most memorable moments I have experienced up to now, and I am hoping for many more positive outcomes in the near future.
As a racing maverick, you’ve likely faced your fair share of challenges. Can you share an experience where you had to overcome a significant obstacle or setback in your racing career?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: The major setback, according to someone who has never left home for anything, would be that I had to step out of my comfort zone and become an independent person all of a sudden in order to chase after my passion, which caused a lot of physical health issues as well as a lot of mental health issues but I was insightful enough to understand that that I couldn’t expect to obtain this kind of experience by staying in my comfort zone.
So the most difficult aspect for me would be moving away at such a young age, not only changing cities and states, but also countries, and living alone to pursue what I am passionate about.
Safety is a critical aspect of racing. What safety measures and precautions do you prioritize to ensure your well-being on the track?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: Safety is the most important factor in racing. I place an emphasis on wearing high-quality safety equipment, such as a helmet, fire-resistant suit, gloves, and shoes. I also make certain that my vehicle has proper security precautions such as roll cages, fire suppression systems, and reinforced seat. Maintenance of the car and extensive pre-race checks are required on a regular basis.
In addition, during races, I observe tight safety measures, track restrictions, and communicate with my team and race officials. Continuous training in addressing emergency circumstances is also essential in guaranteeing the safety of drivers on the track.
Motorsports can be an expensive pursuit. How do you secure sponsorships and funding to support your racing endeavors?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: Absolutely, motorsports can be an expensive passion. High-performance vehicles, maintenance, safety equipment, entry fees, travel expenditures, and team support are all costs. These financial constraints frequently make it difficult for ambitious racers to break into the elite racing environment.
Regardless of the expenditures, the enthusiasm and pleasure of motorsports encourage both enthusiasts and experts to join in this thrilling and difficult industry. My father and older brother, as well as their companies, currently fund my racing endeavours as of now.
In addition to your racing career, do you have any other hobbies or interests that you’re passionate about?
Mohammad Anas Shaikh: While racing is one of my main interests, I also have a number of hobbies that are related to sports. I used to box when I was younger, I used to play football and cricket as a hobby, and when it comes to academics, I have always been inspired by not only my father but also my older brother, and I have eventually developed a keen interest in Business.
Mohammad Anas Shaikh’s journey from a 16-year-old racing prodigy to a formidable presence on the grid is nothing short of remarkable. His pursuit of excellence in motorsport, now racing with Team DTS Racing in the JK Tyre National Championship and aiming for the coveted GB4 Championship at Silverstone in the UK, is an inspiration to all young aspirants with dreams of conquering the racing world.
Anas has shown that age is no barrier when it comes to chasing one’s passion and dreams. As he represents his homeland on the international stage and continues to hone his skills, the racing world awaits the emergence of a true racing icon in the making.
Keep an eye on this multifaceted racing maverick as he takes on the challenge of his lifetime, proving that the thrill of the track knows no bounds, and the future of Indian motorsport is indeed in capable hands with Mohammad Anas Shaikh.
