An Interview with Mohit Maheshwari, Co-Founder and Director at NMG Digital, specialize in performance-driven SEO, content marketing, and conversion optimization
Mohit Maheshwari, Co-Founder and Director at NMG Digital, has been at the forefront of building performance-driven digital strategies.
Specializing in SEO, content marketing, and conversion optimization, he empowers brands to achieve measurable growth. In this interview, Mohit shares his entrepreneurial journey, insights on scaling businesses, and the evolving future of digital marketing.
Can you tell us about your journey in the digital marketing space and what led you to co-found NMG Digital?
Mohit Maheshwari: I started working in the technology and digital space back in 1999, before the SEO industry even formally existed, right around the time of dot-com boom.
Google had just launched and the concept of search engine optimization or performance marketing was still evolving. So in many ways, I was fortunate to be part of this ecosystem from day one.
Over the years, I worked with agencies and clients across the US, UK, Australia and the Middle East, helping them scale digital campaigns and build offshore teams.
I led projects across the entire digital stack: from early SEO and pay-per-click campaigns to full-scale eCommerce development, CRM systems and mobile apps.
In 2008, I co-founded NMG Technologies with a vision to build a world-class digital solutions company that could serve businesses globally – whether it was a funded startup, a public sector initiative or a Fortune 500 brand.
What began as a small team has grown into a 150+ member company with a global footprint across the US, UK, Africa and the MENA region.
While NMG Technologies handles broader web and app development, we launched NMG Digital as our specialized arm purely focused on advanced SEO and comprehensive digital marketing strategies.
We’ve delivered 500+ websites, 200+ mobile apps, and 400+ advanced SEO campaigns, all with a focus on real business outcomes.
My passion has always been about solving complex growth problems and NMG reflects that DNA. We combine deep execution expertise with strategic thinking to drive transformation at scale.
What do you believe are the most critical elements of a successful SEO strategy today?
Mohit Maheshwari: At NMG, we don’t look at SEO as just a traffic driving channel – we look at it as a revenue driving architecture.
The days of keyword stuffing and chasing vanity metrics are long gone. Today, a successful SEO strategy requires a blend of technical precision, content strategy and conversion intelligence.
There are a few key pillars we focus on:
- Search Intent Mastery: You have to align content with what the user is actually trying to achieve – not just what they’re typing into Google.
- Advanced Technical SEO: Things like Core Web Vitals, crawl budget optimization, indexation control and schema markup play a huge role in visibility.
- Topical Authority + Content Layering: Rather than randomly publishing blog posts, we build deep, interconnected content hubs that demonstrate subject matter expertise.
- Conversion Centered SEO: At the end of the day, rankings mean little if they don’t convert. We layer CRO strategies into our SEO approach to drive leads, signups or sales.
- Backlink Strategy with Digital PR: We run sophisticated outreach campaigns, leveraging our 20,000+ publisher network to earn authoritative links.
For example, when we worked with Atlys.com, a venture-backed visa tech startup, we helped them dominate SERPs by ranking 1,200+ keywords in the Top 3, resulting in over 3.3 lakh organic clicks and explosive growth.
So in my view, SEO is not a one-size-fits-all tactic but a custom growth engine tailored to each business.
How do you stay updated with the ever-changing algorithms of search engines like Google?
Mohit Maheshwari: Staying ahead in SEO isn’t just about reading updates it’s about actively testing, learning and applying.
At NMG, we follow a blended approach: we combine live field experiments with industry intelligence from trusted experts and tools.
I closely follow the work of thought leaders like Robbie Richards, Ryan Stewart (whose sprint based SEO system has deeply influenced our ops), Chris Palmer, Julian Goldie and Marie Haynes. These are people who not only break down algorithm shifts but also validate them with real world examples and data backed insights.
On the tools front, our core SEO tech stack includes:
- SEMrush, Ahrefs and SurferSEO for keyword mapping, topical coverage and SERP modeling
- BrightLocal for Local SEO audits and citation tracking
- Screaming Frog for deep technical crawls
- BuzzStream and Respona for advanced link building outreach and Digital PR campaigns
- Sitebulb, GA4 and Looker Studio for performance analytics
But beyond tools and experts, we also maintain sandbox SEO environments our own test websites where we run live experiments on indexation, internal linking, AI content and more. That helps us validate strategies before deploying them at scale for clients.
Ultimately, our goal is to build algorithm resilient SEO – strategies that are rooted in great UX, clear intent alignment and technical excellence. Because when your fundamentals are strong, you don’t panic every time Google rolls out a core update.
In your opinion, what role does content play in SEO, and how can businesses create content that drives traffic and conversions?
Mohit Maheshwari: Content is the core engine of SEO but only when it’s intent-driven and data backed. At NMG, we believe content is not about just pushing out blog posts it’s about solving real user problems, guiding them through the different stages of the buyer journey and generating measurable business outcomes.
Here’s how we approach it:
- Data-Driven Briefs: Every piece of content begins with a structured brief – mapping primary and secondary keywords, search intent, schema, internal links, CTA layers, and more.
- Topical Authority: We build content clusters around themes, not just individual keywords. This improves internal linking, session depth and overall rankings.
- Conversion Layering: Content must do more than rank – it must convert. We always integrate offers, downloadable assets, CTAs, popups and user journeys within the content experience.
For example:
- For Oxfam, we used content layering and persona-driven SEO to increase their organic traffic by 1565%.
- With Atlys, our content hubs helped them capture 20,000+ keywords in Top 20 and 3.3 lakh+ organic clicks.
- For London & Partners, we worked on positioning India as a tech hub through content tied to global investor narratives.
- For Nikon Lenswear India, we built product-focused long form pages that ranked for 250+ keywords in Top 3 – driving a 166% traffic lift.
Whether it’s for fundraising, lead generation or product discovery – great content tells a story, solves a problem and leads to action. That’s the lens we use at NMG for every content strategy deployed.
What are some common mistakes you see companies make in their content marketing efforts?
Mohit Maheshwari: One of the biggest mistakes we see is publishing content without a strategic foundation. Many companies jump straight into blogging or SEO without mapping content to business goals or buyer stages.
Common pitfalls include:
- Creating content in isolation, without understanding how it fits into the larger keyword universe or funnel
- Ignoring on-page hygiene like duplicate H1s, broken schema or missing internal links
- Focusing on volume over quality – pushing out too many thin or overlapping pages
- Missing conversion opportunities within content – no CTAs, lead magnets or intent capture mechanisms
We solve this at NMG by running content audits, building content calendars tied to keyword clusters and integrating conversion triggers right into the editorial process. Content is not just about words on a page – it’s about guiding the user to action.
How do you think AI and machine learning will impact SEO and content marketing?
Mohit Maheshwari: AI and ML are already transforming how we execute SEO but they’re not replacing strategy; they’re amplifying it.
At NMG, we’ve embedded AI into multiple parts of our workflow:
- AI-driven content briefs for faster, data-backed planning
- GPT-based content drafts that are then refined by expert writers
- SERP and gap analysis tools powered by machine learning
- SEO opportunity mapping for decaying or underperforming content
- Link outreach automation using platforms like Respona and Buzzstream
- AI tools to automate tasks such as technical audits, analyse performance data and predict trends.
But here’s the truth: AI can write, audit and analyze but it can’t understand your brand voice, customer psychology or funnel dynamics.
That’s where our team steps in. We use AI to do the heavy lifting so our strategists can focus on positioning, UX and conversion the things that really move the needle.
Also, NMGAIHub is our latest innovation in agentic AI development. We develop smart calling agents and provide automated content creation and optimization solutions using generative AI.
The best thing is that our agents work independently to complete tasks without constant human intervention.
What advice would you give to businesses looking to enhance their digital marketing strategies in the current landscape?
Mohit Maheshwari: In today’s market, fragmented efforts don’t work. You need an integrated strategy that ties together SEO, paid media, CRO and analytics into one growth system.
Here’s what we tell every client:
- Align performance with user journey – That means not just chasing traffic but designing for conversion from the start.
- Own your media stack – Build your list, CRM landing pages and reduce dependence on Meta/Google’s algorithms alone.
- Connect paid and organic – Share keyword data, retarget SEO traffic with PPC and vice versa.
- Invest in systems, not hacks – Repeatable, sprint based execution beats random efforts every time.
At NMG, we apply these principles to every project whether it’s for a startup like Atlys or a legacy brand like Nikon. The goal is simple: turn marketing into a predictable revenue engine.
Through this conversation, Mohit Maheshwari highlights the importance of data-led strategies, impactful content, and conversion-focused approaches. His vision reflects how businesses can sustain growth in an increasingly competitive digital space.
For entrepreneurs and marketers alike, his insights offer both inspiration and a practical roadmap to succeeding through SEO, content marketing, and precise optimization techniques.
