Naveen Tewari was born in Kanpur on 14 December 1977. His father’s name is Dr. Sachindan. His father was a professor at IIM Kanpur, Indian Institute of Technology.
Naveen grew up in Kanpur and obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2000 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
Naveen joined McKinsey & Company in 2000 as a business analyst. His primary task was to develop Go-to-market strategies. After working in McKinsey & Company and remained associated with them until the year 2003.
Tewari moved to the Harvard Business School, to receive his master’s degree in Business Administration in 2003.
Naveen Tewari joined as an Associate at Charles River Ventures (CRV), one of the top venture capital firms. Charles River Ventures (CRV) focused on early-stage investing in communications and software.
His role was to develop Investment Strategy for India along with Technology investments across the US.
Naveen diverted his complete focus towards his MBA. He had also founded U.S. based India Schoolhouse Fund, a non-profit organization in 2005 which sets up schools in rural India with the help of funds.
He felicitated with the Dean’s Award, for exceptional leadership and contribution. He is also the Chairman of India Schoolhouse Fund organization.
Along with IDG Ventures, Naveen Tewari invested $1.2M in NestAway, an Indian start-up in 2015 which is spread over major cities in the country, like Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Bengaluru, among others.
Currently, NestAway is considered as India’s largest home rental network. Naveen Tewari, founded InMobi, a global mobile advertising and technology platform with Amit Gupta, Abhay Singhal, and Mohit Saxena.
He met Amit Gupta, Mohit Saxena at IIM Kanpur. Naveen started his entrepreneurial journey from the shared apartment in Mumbai.
Before founding InMobi, they started an SMS search engine called mKhoj like Guruji and AskLaila which failed shortly. mKhoj, an SMS search engine was started with an Angel Funding of $500,000.
They were called the ‘Boys with PowerPoint’. They moved their base from Mumbai to Bangalore where Naveen currently stays. KPCB, SoftBank, and Sherpalo are their key investors.
They focused their business on technology and mobile advertising platform. He is the Board member of Paytm.

- 2013 – Received Distinguished Alumnus Award by Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur for excellence in entrepreneurship.

- 2014 – Received India Leadership Award by Forbes India for Outstanding Start-Up.
- 2014 – Named in 100 Most Creative People across the world.
- 2015 – Listed as Fortune’s ‘40 under 40’ most important, influential, and powerful people in the business.
- 2015 – Received Future Leaders Award presented by Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
