In 2023, the Indian e-commerce landscape is poised for further expansion and transformation, driven by factors such as M-commerce, social commerce, AI technologies, omnichannel strategies, and the emergence of rural e-commerce. Zeitgeist Retail Private Limited (ZRPL) is an E-commerce technology and services company that facilitates direct connections between brands and consumers through its open platform.

This platform empowers manufacturers and brands to have direct control over product offerings and pricing, ensuring that consumers receive unbiased offers by eliminating intermediaries. With India’s shift towards self-reliance through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), ZEPP is strategically positioned to provide the future of e-commerce services to direct-to-consumer (D2C) sellers and brands.

The “Made in India” API platform, ZEPP, offers a wide range of products, including electronics, home and kitchen items, lifestyle accessories, as well as Gift Cards and Subscription Services like Insurance and Software. As the Director of Sales & Operations, my primary role is to implement processes and systems that enhance the value proposition for end customers and streamline direct customer access to major brands.

What key strategies and tactics have you employed to drive sales and optimize operations at ZRPL, particularly in the rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape?

Nikunj Murukutla: Our core strategy revolves around technology-driven customer-centricity, with four key pillars:

  • Product and Pricing: Continuously evaluating product offerings to optimise the brand’s value proposition and provide direct access to the latest products from brands.

Nikunj Murukutla: India’s vast and digitally connected landscape presents both an opportunity and a challenge for e-commerce and M-commerce. ZRPL’s strategic focus centres on broadening market access. We’ve formed strategic alliances with brands and their logistics partners to implement efficient drop shipping models, streamlining supply chain logistics to improve product availability and ensure reliable, timely deliveries.

To overcome India’s geographical diversity, we’ve integrated India Post into our logistics network, expanding our market coverage to even remote areas. This two-pronged strategy, leveraging collaborations and India Post’s reach, enables ZRPL to excel in serving customers nationwide, establishing us as a leader in the dynamic e-commerce and M-commerce sectors.

Nikunj Murukutla: ZRPL is working on integrating with ONDC on both supplier and seller side to increase the product offering and bringing in the vast spectrum of products to its platforms and also provide a very effective platform to the D2C brands to be on ONDC platform with ease.  We are also working on integrations of Bill payments and buy now and pay later for ease of purchase and affordability.
